State Tournament Location!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Everybody is exactly right on this. Money is all they ever care about when it comes to tournaments of any sort.

I dont think that you would find many mountain boys say they have thought about playing in F-dom hall their entire life. Nothing bad about L-ville but i think most kids want to play at the place they have seen on TV and heard about their entire life.

Might sound crazy but it would help out different teams certain years with the distance with the fans. With the players, I would rather play and watch it at Rupp than anywhere though.

Craziness. Pure Craziness. EKU & WKU don't have the seating capacity to hold some of the larger State Tourney Crowds. Freedom Hall is large enough, but the seating in Freedom Hall is not as good as in Rupp. If you sit lower level at Rupp, even in the corner you have a pretty good view, that is not always the case at Freedom Hall.

By the way Louisville gets the football state championships with-out rotation, so why shouldn't Lexington get basketball?

Why would you want to do something like that. Most may not play there but high school basketball players here in kentucky dream of playing at rupp.

1. Keep everything just how it is.

2. Rotate between UK and Louisville, but if you do, you MUST rotate the football state championships as well. Taking a ride to the Pizza Box is awfully long.

Personally, I'm much more fond of idea #2.

I agree. If they are going to rotate the basketball tournament to Louisville, then they should alternate the football title games to Commonwealth as well.

Although I actually like option #1 better. To me, there is no other place in the state like the Taj Mahal of basketabll, Rupp Arena.

Im sure all Eastern Ky Players would love that, but for Western part would love Lville.

That happened to me in 1988. It was my dream to be able to play at Rupp then the only time in history we made it to the Sweet 16 they moved it to Freedom Hall but dont get me wrong it was a great experience and i cherish ever moment but i would had loved to have played at Rupp every boy's dream i would think

I don't know about that. I went to college with lots of guys from the western part of the state, and at least 90% of them were die-hard UK fans. I really think that the Louisville fans are mainly confined to the city itself (and its surrounding counties, to a degree).

I still think most H.S. players in Kentucky grow up dreaming of playing at Rupp, not Freedom Hall.

You might be right, I was just thinking of the Loserville fans.

They can't, the surface would end up like the Steeler's did. It has to be artificial to support now what is 6 games in 2 days.

I would like to see the girls get to play there also. They could have the girls one week and the boys the next. My wifes neice played high school ball, she would of loved to play in that gym.. I hope I didnt open a can of worms with Title 9, but they have the boys and girls different weeks anyway, why not both at Rupp. Just a thought, had anyone else thought of that, or is it just me.

Yeh and I think they should name it..."Pitino Palace." haha

They probably will.

Rupp is the location of THE University of Kentucky basketball. Plus, it accomodates the fans, players, and the rest of the crowd with lodging and eateries nearby. It's not completely a central location but since the state football championships are in Louisville, I think it's good to have b-ball in Lexington.

How about the Expo Center in Pikeville?
