Former Red, Dave Parker Has Died
#1
"The Cobra" was 74. He suffered from Parkinsons for years.  Dave's prime years were in Pittsburgh, where he teamed with Willie Stargell to win a World Series in 1979("We Are Family"). I remember being excited when I heard he had been traded to his hometown Cincinnati Reds for the 1985 season. The Reds had been pretty bad so it wasexciting when the big Cobra came home to the Queen City. Dave didn't disappoint. Generally thought to be past his prime years, Dave hit .312, with 34 HR, 125 RBI, 42 Doubles, 80 extra base hits, and 350 total bases on the season. He was second in MVP voting to the Cardinals' Willie McGee.  Big Dave had all the baseball tools. He was the most intimidating player I ever saw on the baseball diamond. Watch this throw by the Dave at the '79 All-Star Game. RIP, Cobra. Thanks for the memories!!!

Never heard of him, but also before my time.

Acutely weird... Even if he was before your time, how could you never have heard of him?  I don't believe you on this one.

Ridiculous. Anyway, the Cobra probably ranks with Ken Griffey, Jr. for me as my favorite Red that spent most of his career with other teams. Even though he’s in the Hall of Fame, I still think he was under appreciated overall. A great, great player.
