Betsy Layne (Open?)
#1
Sure seems like there’s a storm brewing on the Hill at Betsy Layne…

Politics are at play. Anyone got any updates on this? I know it’s getting real on Facebook.

Seems like this is an every other year thing at Betsy Layne. Hire the coach everybody wants and in two seasons he hasn’t won the region so he’s not the right guy and find a new guy. Would be crazy to get rid of Howard.

Howard has done a great job with this team. Won district and had it not been for being suspended may had made it to the final 4 of the regional tournament. Now after 4 seasons depending on player development and other factors that is when you have to decide whether or not he is going to be the best option for your team.

If Betsy Layne is smart, they'll be offering this job to Mason Hall.

If the 15th region coach of the year's job isn't safe then nobody's is safe LOL No other place on earth like Floyd county. None.

Exactly

The fact that this conversation is even happening is laughable. Dear god Floyd County will never win anything and they all wonder why.

I would imagine Mike is safe but the point remains, WTH is it even a question?

Do better Floyd County

It’s not performance based. It stems from his encounter at the district tournament. Potentially firing him is a bit much imo. We’ve all had parents we wanted to call out on a microphone. He just had the kahunas to do it  Big Grin

If that's the reason they go with as grounds to fire him then that sounds more like an excuse than a reason, to me. Was it wrong of him to do that? Yes, but their football coach has exhibited much worse behavior over the last couple of years and has kept his job. Only one of those two gentlemen is winning championships and that's the one they're going to fire? Make it make sense, please.

Agreed. I’m sure Mike is someone the board can’t control like a puppet and they can’t stand it. As much as Junior has done for BL, he’s now holding them back. Back off and let Mike do his job. He knows what he’s doing.

Don’t understand how someone can win Coach Of The Year and now is on the verge of losing their job. Thats how Floyd county is though just need to back off and let Mike do his thing and. Howard went 18-10 and 4-2 in district for 2nd place but won it all in the tournament. I’ve heard Johnson is the guy they’re wanting don’t get me wrong he was a great coach in middle school but it’s way different than middle school with how kids are more mature than they was and also not to mention he always had the best players on his team when he coached so it wasn’t hard for him to win. I think very kindly of him but he isn’t ready for a high school he could make a great assistant though. Keep Howard!!

This is Betsy Layne to a T. Cutting each other down, within. It's never the outsiders that hurt Betsy Layne. It's the same issue that all coaches face at other schools, Betsy Layne just shouts it to the world. Seems to be a few upset parents that are trying to get rid of him. They won the district, he was named coach of the year, and they made it through a whole season without fighting. Sounds like a successful year to me.

I think its not a performance based issue, but more of an inability to communicate with players. I do know there is a 6'10 kid there that he chased off, and another that's 6'6. And a another instance that he was asking another player if he only eats donuts each day. That players parent went to school and made a verbal complaint. Nowadays, those are things you just cannot do, plus 6'10 kids are hard to find.

None of that is true in any way shape form or fashion unless you are the parent of those kids who weren't good enough to play and want to blame it on something other than not being good enough.

You don't have to be a parent to know these things. Just ask a few players. Pretty common knowledge. Throw in the issue at the game vs Prestonsburg., or I supposed that didn't happen either?

Any news on this one?

Usually when there’s this much noise, they’ll open it with the chance for current HC to get it back by vote.

It's Floyd County, all coaching positions are reposted yearly. As this method does leave the door of opportunity open, most coaches have enough respect for each other to not put in for someone else's job. Unless they resign, step away or are fired. I fully expect Howard to remain the coach for the 25-26 season.

So no one has even put in for this one besides Mike?

That I do not know. They used to post these jobs in the front office of the school buildings.

I don’t think this job is really “open”. Coaches contracts are always a one year deal and the rehire is generally a formality.

Not necessarily the powers that be, but the power that be if that makes sense.

Not throwing down names, but we all know who controls everything that goes on over that way, former legendary HC.

Even tho Mike won COTY, certain individual has been trying to do everything they can to get him out of there, and then the incident during the district championship sure didn't help matters. Even tho still nothing has been official, it's still in the works to get him out and someone else in as HC, think the name for replacement had already been mentioned.

None of this is true. 100% Mike is the coach. Case closed.
Move on to the next thing
