Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto was shot in the chest and neck by a gunman, who then blew himself up today. She was seeking to be elected as Prime Minister in the upcoming election.

A Muslim nation with 130 million people and 150 nuclear missles is a concern. She was an inspiration and hope for democracy. Hopefully extremist will not take over the government now that her voice is gone.

I agree that it's sad, but this is another reason that I don't think we can have a female president because if any nuclear country in the Middle East sees that we have someone that they don't even regard as a person running our country, they might just start lobbing nukes at us.
If anybody comes into power over there and starts making threats and messing with us, we better just blow them off the map.

She wasn't killed by the gunshots, she was killed from a skull fracture by the explosion. I think it was Al-Queda...they tried to get Pakistan to overthrow their gov't and Pakistan just laughed at them and didn't pay attention, I think this assassination was Al-Queda just getting back at Pakistan for not paying attention to them.

Obviously there is a difference between Muslim and Muslim extremist. But the Muslim religion is not very tolerant of other religions. However, only a minority take it literal and resort to violence.

How many religions act like the world is coming to an end when a cartooon is published about their religion? What other religion denies women the basic rights of a human being?
And I dont buy into the extremists theory. Where are the extremists from the other religions? Yes there may be some rogue individuals from other religions that do horrible things. However what other religion trains people to kill innocent men, women and children in the name of the lord?

If your question is taken in historical perspective, all religions have acted in the very ways you abhor. Religion poisons everything.

Everyone is afraid to speak out against the Muslim religion.
For example look what happened when Salman Rushdie wrote the "Satanic Verses."
The book was banned in India and burned in demonstrations in the United Kingdom. In mid-February 1989, following a violent riot against the book in Pakistan, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Supreme Leader of Iran and a Shi'a Muslim scholar, issued a fatwa calling on all good Muslims to kill Rushdie and his publishers, or to point him out to those who can kill him if they cannot themselves.
Following the fatwa, Rushdie was put under police protection by the British government. Despite a conciliatory statement by Iran in 1998, and Rushdie's declaration that he would stop living in hiding, the Iranian state news agency reported in 2006 that the fatwa will remain in place permanently.
As of today Rushdie has not been physically harmed, but others connected with the book have suffered misfortune. Hitosh Igarashi, the Japanese language translator of the book, was stabbed to death on July 11, 1991; Ettore Capriolo, the Italian language translator, was seriously injured in a stabbing the same month, and William Nygaard, the publisher in Norway, barely survived an attempted assassination in Oslo in October of 1993.:booo:
