First college baseball team in history to finish a season with a perfect record. I don't care what level of baseball(btw, NAIA is good baseball to watch) we're talking, any baseball team finishing a season with 59 wins in 59 games is simply amazing . Congrats!!!
Btw, my alma mater, the University of the Cumberlands , hosted the opening round of the NAIA tourney at Williamsburg and won their pool with a 3-0 record and advanced to the NAIA World Series, where they won two games and lost two. Both games they lost were to Hope International, out of Fullerton, Calif. The Cumberlands finished the season with a 50-12 record. While not quite 59-0 , still an impressive season for the Patriots.

Congrats to the University of the Cumberlands on a great year. I never went there but my dad had a basketball scholarship there in the 60s.
Congrats to LSU Shreveport on a undefeated year! Definitely Impressive!!

59-0 is hard to even imagine in baseball. And yes, NAIA has some darn good baseball. Cumberlands has turned into a big-time baseball program over the years.

To me, this is one of the most remarkable feats by a team, ever, at any level of play. Baseball is the hardest sport to go undefeated in, simply because at some point your’re going to run into a hot pitcher on the other side. It’s hard to do even in Little League. And to go through 59 games and win them all….just mind-boggling.

Agree 100% . Football, yeah maybe. Basketball, it can happen. But baseball??? Incredible!!! May never happen again.

59-0 is insane at any level.
Having 9 players with a .300 average in 100+ at-bats is also pretty wild. So is only four of their games being decided by one run. It wasn't all hitting though, as their team ERA was 2.38 (more than a run better than the next closest team).
From what I'm gathering, this isn't some dominant dynasty-- they've been pretty good for awhile, but this is the school's first national championship and they'd had 10 or more losses in three of their last four seasons. Almost sounds like having caught lightning in a bottle-- a really good team that probably had some luck and statistical anomalies on their side as well.
Like everyone else, this is something that I don't know we see repeated, at least in a very long time.

Agree, Jack. Probably won't see it again in our lifetimes.

High-rated NAIA teams are full of DI-talented players who do not want to sit behind someone. There are some big-time programs in the NAIA world. Still hard to imagine going 59-0.

@Old School Hound Probably a better topic for another thread, but what are the most "unbreakable" records in sports?
Many of Wilt's averages (PPG in a season) or high games (100 in a game)? Ripken's streak in an age where rest is valued? DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak (don't read his bio for signs of the times... plus the closest anyone has come to his 56 in the 2000's is Jimmy Rollins' 38). Wooden's 7 consecutive NCAA titles at UCLA? Phelps' total gold medals will probably stand for awhile. Beating Brady's 7 Super Bowl wins in an age of parity?

Nobody's ever touching Ripkin and Wooden's UCLA dominance is safe for eternity.
