I’m surprise Knott isn’t one. With the loss of Terry ,I would flip them and Owsley.
#3
Knott should be a lock in the 14th in my opinion.

Knott beat Owsley in overtime by 1 point at Hyden during summer. The McAlarnis girls had joined Knott at the time. Terry was still with Owsley as well. I wasn’t there but everyone said it was a good game and went right down to the wire.

So Knott beats them by 25 now that Terry’s gone?

I think Owsley is still a strong team. I think it will be a good game regardless when they play. Macy Brown is a problem for everyone and her surroundings cast is good.

We played 3 of the top 4 on the list play this summer. Honestly I can't see anyone coming within 10 of Knott this year. We didn't play Knott but from what I know they should be the class of the 14th by a long shot.

I don’t think so. Owsley is still pretty darn good. And going to get better and better as the season progresses. They start two freshmen and three sophomores. As the late and great ABC sports announcer Curt Gowdy used to say, “Their future is in front of them.” Lol

Their future is def in front of them, but not just yet lol. Owsley will own the 14th for the next 3 years after this year. But this year its Knotts to lose.

Losing Terry along with 3 other starters to graduation will be hard to replace. Knott and Hazard are the only two teams I would put money on to play at Rupp from what I’ve seen. Breathitt isn’t a team many people are talking about but I could see them playing spoiler come tournament time if all their girls can stay healthy.

It don’t matter who goes to the state tournament out of the 14th. Because the 14th is always one and done.

It matters a lot to the team that wins a regional championship and their fans and family - just as much as a 14th Region team in the past that may have won several games or a state championship.

Last year Owsley had Bowling Green beaten, up by 16 at one time. Owsley then went a little cold and BG clawed back. But there were  some controversial calls that aided their comeback. One was when the Lady Owl’s Carly Smith scored on a drive to the lane and was fouled and the ref wiped it off and called it a foul on the floor. Replays clearly showed she was in the act of shooting and was fouled. Another time she drove the lane and a defender swiped at the ball and barely touched it, if she even touched it at all, and Smith scored a baseline shot. The ref wiped the basket away and called a jump ball. Replays later showed the official got it wrong. That’s 5 Owsley points erased. Owsley loses the game by 2, 46-44. Bowling Green goes to the quarterfinals and loses by 7 to McCracken County. I think McCracken went on to play in the championship game.
Regardless, that game proves the 14th can occasionally play with the statewide schools. I agree with you in most years the 14th doesn’t make a good showing but last year was not one of those.

I think winning a regional championship is a real big deal no matter what region you are from. Going to the State Tournament is a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you can get there and make some noise, more power to you. Beating Sacred Heart and the other privates is a tall task for a public school. Good Luck to all the teams. Play for the Love of the game.

I know it meant a lot to our community last spring. And we have more kids playing basketball now from the 1st grade to the 6th that we have probably ever had at Owsley. The little ones look at our regional champion girls as heroes.

I agree that Knott Central is the team everyone is chasing. But I think Owsley will be in the hunt for the second spot. One Lady Owl that everyone is probably not thinking about is 6’ Kamilla Marcum. She saw quite a bit of playing time last season as a reserve, but due to the depth of the team and a few injuries she didn’t play extended minutes. She has had a great summer of basketball and I think will be a force for Owsley this year, and will form a good 1-2 punch with Macey Brown. And the Lady Owls have good guards led by Kenzie Grubb and the coaches’ daughter Delaney Smith. The one one weak area is depth but it didn’t seem to be an issue in their scrimmage game with Floyd Central on Saturday.

I've not seen them since summer ball so maybe they have improved tremendously. I see potential down the road but as of now personally my opinion is they can't come within 15 of Knott without help. But they are in the top 3 of the region again in my opinion.

I see this comment so many times about how it doesn't matter because they are going to lose. True they may lose but I promise you to the players, coaches, fans, schools, etc it matters. Not everyone is going to win the NCAA championship but 64 teams go and some of those teams have no shot in the first game (16 seed) but they are there and on any given night they can be the best team out there and do something remarkable. Even in a loss they were there.

I see a lot of people picking Owsley? Didn’t they lose one of there major contributors last year due to graduation?
#19
Lost Carly Smith, Addison Terry, and Lynch. Will be a totally different team. It will take time to gel. I would think KCC has the most talent.

Could be one of the dumbest comments of all times. It matters a hell of a lot to which ever teams fortunate enough to win this or any region. Some of these kids play their whole lives with dreams of playing in a state tournament and chance to win a state championship and never get that opportunity. So for the ones who are lucky enough for it to happen I say kudos to you all and good luck. Also for you to say it doesn’t matter shows me you’re no guru whatsoever. Maybe you should change your name to the scarecrow because you clearly don’t have a brain.
