BGR Class 4A Preseason Rankings
#1
Class 4A Preseason Rankings

1. Boyle County
2. Paducah Tilghman
3. Corbin
4. Franklin County
5. Covington Catholic
6. Johnson Central
7. Ashland
8. Bardstown
9. Logan County
10. Desales

Thanks Cherokee for pointing that out with a post. I had written these down on paper and must have left Covington Catholic off by mistake. But I do have Whitley County and Perry County looking in from the outside in the 11 and 12 spots. Covington Catholic should have been on here.

How are they determined? Any rationale behind them? Just curious how the rankings worked out this way.

I think they are pretty decent. It's pre-season so who knows? I'm sure the lower you go, the more there is potential for shuffling around.

Numbers 2-4 or 5 could probably go in any order. Below that would be the same. So those would be the groupings I see. Boyle has some separation, the next 3/4 are tightly matched and then there's some separation before the rest.

Covington Catholic not in the top 10

Good question. GrannyBear contacted me about doing a BGR Ranklings. So I looked into it yesterday when I got time. This is my opinions only and not the reflection of any other poster. I will take all the feedback and criticism you guys want to give. Thats what they are for. Now anyone who wants to help in a ranking is more than welcome to message me each week with there opinions of each class. Now you asked how are they determined. Any ranking is a opinion or the person or persons doing the ranking. If you look at the RPI that tallys with there system each week, look at the final tallied teams rpi vs the champion. No system is perfect. So when plugging in numbers or opinions you have to just go with it. So I came up with my own method. Each week the winning team will get 1 point a losing team will get .5 points. Also each week a team will get .1 through a possible .6 for the class each team plays to reflect stretngth of opponent. Each team will also get the same credit but based on touchdowns scored. Then I came up with my own power ranking system. I used the amount of teams in each class times the amount by strength of overall class and then in head to head matchups the losing team will lose .5 points. So I ran a simulator yesterday on last years Class 4A results to see how I may come up with something that would rank teams using real data. I also went through alot of the top 25 teams and plugged in the numbers to see how it looked. Now what I aint gonna do is out of state teams. I just give the opponent like the rpi the same number like they played a district team. Unless the team is ranked in that state. Because the power ranking I came up with even in a loss will credit the losing team with the winning teams ranking strengths. So its hard to write this stuff down. But I got a whole notebook of numbers and I am going to see how it goes. Like any poll, I will be able to tweak it if need be. Rankings aint as easy as one might think to put out there. I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes. So each week after the teams final scores, I can plug in the data to each class. Then each class should move on its own based on the formula. The madness to the method is don't pay any attention to those who get tore up over a opinion.  Smile The beauty of BGR is anyone can post their own rankings and opinions.

I appreciate the rationale on this. No real criticism from me. I think these are tough to do - especially in the pre season. I can't really argue with them, although I did wonder about Covington Catholic and whether they should be in there.

I put my scenarios on paper handwritten and must have failed to write them down. They are truly a top team in Class 4A. Where I didn't have them in a slot, I moved up other teams and just missed them somehow. When I just did the top 25, I did it again where I was looking at my paper and didn't have them wrote down. I had to go back and insert them. Now of course, mine are just for fun. I aint nothing but a opinionated coffee drinking peanut butter loving guy. LOL.  Smile

Right now it's difficult as to where everyone stacks up. I have my eye on Ashland and feel they could be a team to shake up the RPI seedings on the east side.

The standard is Boyle and Corbin. Interested to see the new coach and what he unveils at corbin. Those two teams have more talent, and seem to get big time move ins each year. Add in coaching and resources.. But others continue to close in.
