Prestonsburg at Leslie County. Thoughts?

Always tough to win in Hyden. With Elliott and Adams out it might be a blowout. But I liked the way the Blackcats played hard last night.

35-21 Leslie Co

I think PBurg has a lot of upside but it won’t be good for them Friday. Leslie makes a statement and wins big, 32-6

This should be one of the better matchups of the week.

I watched the Leslie/Harlan Co scrimmage and Leslie struggled to move the ball outside of scoring on their first play. They had some turnovers and their defense struggled vs HC's ground attack. While it was only a scrimmage and Harlan Co is a 5A program, they only won 1 game last season and put up 3 scores on the Eagles while only allowing 1 score. Leslie is down two linemen also and their RB #5 looked to have turned his ankle in the scrimmage. I'll be interested to hear about his status. Not to mention Leslie lost A LOT to graduation. Yes, they return Collett and have added Kilburn, but Maggard and Pugh were studs. IMO, had Leslie rode Maggard more in last years matchup they probably would've won that game, but they put the ball in the air a lot and ended up with 6 turnovers and lost.

Prestonsburg played well in their scrimmages vs. Powell Co, East Carter, and even put a few scores on Johnson Central last week and lost to Shelby Valley last night in 3 quarters 26-21. Prestonsburg did struggle to defend a lot of what Leslie Co is going to want to do. Defense got out of position and give up a few big plays, but they also got some pressure on the QB and forced a few picks as well. I do think Pburg will be able to get pressure on Collett. I look for Pburg to take away Kilburn and find ways to frustrate him. He looked visually frustrated during the Harlan Co scrimmage. #18 is a solid weapon on the outside for Leslie as well that Pburg will have to be aware of.

The Blackcats are supposed to have Dalton Elliott back this week also. Idk how much he'll play on defense, but I expect him to be a big part of the offense. Much of what Prestonsburg is best at right now is their belly offense mixed with PA pass. If Pburg is able to eat up chunk yards like they've shown so far during the scrimmages out of the belly offense and keep from shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers and penalties then I think Prestonsburg wins by playing keep away. I'm glad Pburg's defense could see a similar offense to Leslie's in Shelby Valley last night. I think that'll help a ton heading into next Friday night.

If Prestonsburg is able to control the game with their rushing attack and force some turnovers then the Blackcats win, 34-21. If Pburg plays sloppy and Leslie is able to hit on some big plays then Eagles win at home, 28-20.

Should be a great game... Go Blackcats!!!

If Elliott is out, it will be a long night for the blackcats.

One would assume Leslie wins this going away, but with the current decisions and play calling who knows? they need to get Noah the ball early and often to pull it off.
