Why not? their's nothing wrong with it at all, local newspapers and television stations usually attend these and its a chance for parents of players, cheerleaders, and dance members to take some pictures.

I've never heard of a high school team having a media day.

Are people really THAT interested? So much so that high schools need media days now? Or are the local news sources just desperate for something to cover?
Pointless IMO.

I guess so, Prestonsburg has been doing it for awhile now.
I believe that Sheldon Clark is having their's on August 6 and Johnson Central will be holding their's on August 11.

vundy33 Wrote:Why are high school football teams having a media day? Good Lord...They are several good reasons to have media days. Take Belfry for example. They take a team picture and all of the media outlets can come get the picture so they don't have to take it two or three times.
Also you get all of your individual pictures in and the interviews. It makes it a lot easier for everybody when a media day is involved. I have heard from both teams and media and both say media days makes life much simpler.
If you notice the teams mentioned that are having it is teams wtih tradition. I know Prestonsburg and JC has been mentioned and I know Belfry and Pikeville each has one.

I don't know about other schools but at Prestonsburg it's a tradition for media day.
Our local TV station covers it and interviews all the players, cheerleaders, dance cats, etc. The pics for the program are taken that day as well.
I know there are other media days for the other sports as well, boys & girls basketball & volleyball have them.
LJ productions does the TV work and the radio/papers are invited also, they are always a good way to get the season going.

I can understand powerhouse teams like Belfry having media days but not many other schools around here, just seems weird. I guess I'm just old school but I think it's just a little bit to much.

Basically it it just a picture day and the media is invited.
I believe every school has a picture day...some just happen to now call it media day.

Can someone tell me if and when Betsy Layne and Allen Central are having their media day?
08-02-2008, 02:50 AM
Sheldon Clark has one every year

I thought everyone had a media day. We've had 'em down here for years. Of course, we had good reason - being situated were we are, we're covered by 2 daily papers - Bluefield & Bristol. Who would want to make 3 trips of about 2 hours each way to Buchanan Co. in August to get a picture and a couple of quotes? So all 3 schools coordinate and have "media day" for 2 hours on the same day. Hurley in the morning, Grundy mid-day and Twin Valley in the afternoon.

Just got back from Prestonsburg's media day, a lot of the public and news sources were their including WYMT, Big Sandy News, Floyd County Times, and a few others.
The community seems to be very excited about the upcoming season at Prestonsburg!
