With Tim Stephens having a birthday i looked up some history of these schools south and west of Somerset. Tim scored 42 points in December 1975 in the Middlesboro Invitational. For 3 games in the 12th region Tim scored 34, 37 and 35 points leading his team to state. During the regular season he scored over 50 points in 3 games. Cumberland County in 1976 posted a 26-8 winning district and playing one game in the region. Chris Norris and Jeff Vibbert were stars for the school in Burkesville. The 1980 Cumberland County team upset Warren East in the semi finals of the region and advanced to region final play. Kenny Claywell, Dennis Smith ,Steve McDonald, David Norris and Gerald Polston led their school in the upset. The Clinton County school sets 20 miles east of the Burkesville school. Bobbie Storie was second team all state in the 1982 season. His other teammates were Robbie Davis and Jerry Latham. Clinton County 57, Cumberland 56 was the score from the 16th district final played in Albany. Kenny Claywell & Steve McDonald were now seniors who played against Bobbie Storie team. I visited with the managing editor from the hometown Clinton County newspaper as he kept the scorebook for the boys team and he explained the talent of Bobbie and his team. He played at Transylvania and is in the top 30 scoring for the school and came back and coached the high school for 4 seasons. The two farming community schools in some seasons have the talent to advance to the semi finals of the Bowling Green region.
