Betsy Layne is going to be good. But they have to work on their defense. That are super athletic but can’t stay in front of anyone and get beat to the rim every play. And I think I’m the second half the press helped and eventually killed them. Paintsville seemed like they scored every point in the second half of beating the full court press of the bobcats and shooting wide open plays. I don’t think Paintsville had to run a half court set the entire second half. It was all wide open layups off press break. And Jordan Frazier has to be more of an emphasis to get him going on offense.
Overall though, I like our chances of making some noise in the 15th region. We are athletic freaks from 1-5 and once we get playing some better defense and not letting guys go around us and just trying to back tap we are going to be a very good team.

I agree they are going to be a decent team in the Region. Their press worked when they got the first trap but if the ball got to the middle of the floor, Paintsville had a open shot at the rim all night. Coach Newsome likes to run a lot of 5 out against a man defense. I believe that's why Frazier didn't get up a lot of shots. Players are going to go one on one instead of feeding Jordan in the post which is where he likes to get it. Coach Short put a emphasis on posting him up and letting him get his paint touches. Will be interesting to see how their offense evolves going forward. I thought they played the passing lane well tonight but their on ball Defense was lacking. If Paintsville got into a half court set their was a lot of blow byes and giving up the baseline.
As far as Paintsville goes, they disappointed me tonight. Looks like they don't play any pressure defense and BL got what they wanted most of the time on offense with a drive to the basket. If Fugate doesn't make a lot of shots this Paintsville team will struggle. After one game it looks like they're gonna miss Keaton a whole lot.
Overall even with the Tigers win, I think BL is a better team but its still early. BL has to get better with their on ball defense and actually stopped someone one on one if they want to compete for the region. Paintsville looks as if they will go as far as Fugate takes them.

I thought both teams looked very sloppy. Paintsville will struggle without fugate dropping 25+ they need Tharp to step up and he a dominant player. Betsy Layne needs to improve on their shooting ALOT. they don't have any real threat behind the arc. Both teams struggled painstville against the press the most. I do wonder how this game would've went if fugate would've had some practices in. He just came off a 2 week quarantine and you could tell his legs and cardio just wasn't their tonight. He also looked a little passive in the 1st half

He also looked a little passive in the 1st halfIt definitely looked like what it was, for both teams, the first game of the season! Extremely physical game from start to finish. Seems The Bobcats press may have given up as many points as it produced and I think they may have settled for 3’s a little too often. The Bobcats were 1 for 7 in the first half and 6-15 in the second putting them 7-22 for the game, However a few of those 3’s were BIG shots that came in key moments. The Robinson kid is one of the most athletic kids I’ve seen play in a long time. Shelby Valley will be a very dangerous team that could easily mess up someone’s plans in the Region.

I said step up and be dominant he has the ability to Avg 20+ every night and still run the team the way coach slone wants him too If they run into a team that takes fugate out of the picture they loose that scoring impact Tharp is a good enough player to take over a game. If he steps up and plays like that every night then paintsville becomes a very very tuff team.
