Clay County 74 Williamsburg 70
#1
Final from the Cumberland Falls Invitational at Corbin High School.

Williamsburg could be pretty good come March if they learn how to finish. Blew the lead against Corbin and took Clay and Wayne to the wire. Also, couldn't close out the games against Lynn Camp and OBI.
#3
With all of their experience they should know how to finish, losing these games is a bad sign.

Williamsburg is a very well-coached team. Don't forget that this is a school with a small student population whose football team made a deep run-- they haven't had all of their kids together and in basketball shape as long as most other schools.

Plus they should be adding a kid that will help very soon...

I had ranked Williamsburg as the All A favorite, but that football excuse doesn't explain it. They lost in the third round, which is not unusual at all for them. They could still be a top five team in the region and win the All A but a couple of those losses were very surprising.

I don’t think a couple weeks of football made a difference in the game against Clay. Clay was the better team. A loss is a loss. Bring on the transfers!

You make fair points. Some losses were surprising and they have enjoyed success on the gridiron in the past just as they are now.

Just know that I wasn't trying to make an 'excuse' for them-- nothing personal, I just hope that wasn't an inference on anyone's part because that wholly was not my intent.

Nothing against Williamsburg. Coach Napier does a good job and has been great to me. They have the most experienced team in the region with nine seniors (too many in my opinion, even though that has nothing to do with the discussion) and now some are waiting on another player to join the team. They played football two weeks less than Bell County. It's time to look ahead though, I agree - no one cares about how many weeks the football team played a month into the basketball season.
