The NBA Season Begins Tonight...
#1

The NBA regular season begins tonight. Does anyone really care? This is kinda similar to the NHL thread, except the TV ratings aren't as bad - yet.

Kobe...The new-look C's...San Antonio, the dynasty no one has ever heard off...King James...

Sounds exciting huh?

Get this, found this today...
The NBA begins its season this week under a cloud bigger than any since 1980, when the Los Angeles Times opined that 75 percent of the league's players had experimented with cocaine. This season brings the bookends of Tim Donaghy's disgrace and Madison Square Garden's shame. Donaghy, a referee for 13 seasons until he resigned this summer, confessed in July to providing inside information about officiating crews to mobsters, and the NBA discovered it knew next to nothing about how much gambling had infiltrated its ranks, not to mention that its background checks were useless. Cablevision, the parent company of the New York Knicks, insisted against all common sense to go ahead with a civil trial brought by a former high-ranking female employee instead of writing an admittedly sizable check to make her go away. The resulting trial was an embarrassment, with team employees, including coach Isiah Thomas, disclosing sexual and racial epithets hurled around the Garden on a seemingly daily basis. Then there was the team intern, detailing sexual romps in the backseat of star guard Stephon Marbury's SUV. Stern insists that Donaghy was a rogue. But an internal review found that about half of the league's 56 referees had engaged in some sort of small-level gambling during the past few years -- lotteries, betting pools and the like.

My excitement for the season was dampened this summer when Elton Brand tore his achillies, ill still follow the Clippers but I dont expect them to be in contention for a playoff spot this year. It will be interesting to see how the new look Celtics do.

I have to be honest, I want to see how the C's look as well. I'm a longtime Celtics fan. It's just the NBA in general isn't exciting to me anymore. And it's more than just the gambling issues too. Players like Kobe kill me and are hurting the game. It's a shame Kobe gets more coverage than the Spurs.

I agree 100 percent about Kobe. Im sick and tired of hearing his whining and that whole Laker soap opera.

I HATE Kobe but I like the NBA. Lebron James will go down as one of the best players in history before he retires.

Go Cavs, and Go Suns!

I like the NBA, and I like Kobe. KG is my favorite player, I can't wait to watch the Celtics play this year.

I like the NBA myself, not as much as I like college basketball but I like it still. I also always have fastasy basketball team so that gives it a little more interesting to me too. I along with everyone else cant wait to see how the Celtics do.

I personally don't like the NBA at all, too many games for one IMO and if I watch basketball at all it's college. Just never have been able to get into the NBA, not really sure why either lol.

I can't get into the NBA at all. Just seems like the games are not very exciting. I'll take big-time college basketball any day!

I would rather watch the NBA over the MLB anyday. I've just lost all interest in MLB with all the issues surrounding it. Plus 160 baseball games not counting the postseason and the preseason is way to freakin much.

The only downside to the NBA is 1 to many games, they need to shorten it a bit, and 2 the ref that was betting on games last year really hurt the sport.

But like I said, I'd rather watfh NBA over MLB right now but nothing beats College Basketball!

Lol over half the NBA refs were involved of some kind of gambling. The Knicks are being suited for sexual harressment. Plus more.

I've been a big fan of Orlando, I'll be watching some Celtics games this year too. Rondo is in there starting a Pg and KG house to stop.
