ACHS won its 3rd consecutive 58th distrit title tonight. AC defeated Prestonsburg 8-5. AC came out strong in the first inning to score 6 runs before Pburg recorded the first out.

Congrats to AC on the win. Junior Scott Little was named conference player of the year. While Alex Hammonds and Josh Rodebaugh were named tournament MVP's.

AC placed Scott Little, ALex Hammonds, Josh Prater, Logan Crowder and Chad Nelson on the Conference team. While Scott Little, ALex Hammonds, Josh Prater, John Bryant and Logan Crowder were named to the 58th district tourney team.

Congrats AC and Good Luck to the Rebels and the Blackcats in the region tourney next week.

This was also AC's 6th District Championship in the last 7 years. They won it in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, and now 2007. They were runner-up to Betsy Layne in 2004.

What in the world is a "conference" team?

All 4 58th Distrct teams are located in Floyd County. The team with the best record is "Floyd County Conference Champions". They then select an "all conference" team based on play during those conference games and a "conference player of the year". Floyd County does this in Girls/Boys Basketball as well as Softball and Baseball. They also name an All Distrct team based on play during the 58th district tourney.

IT's nice for the kids, not always perfect, but still nice.

The Floyd County Conference has been doing it for years and years. They've always seeded and required that each team in the conference had to play the other teams 2 times each - home and away - in baseball and basketball. The players would be judged for conference play only - not outside play. It's a really good thing for all the kids in the county, and has heigtened regular season play inside the county. It's makes the regular season fun and rewards good play.

Yea...The 59th is seeded, and we play each other twice, I just hadn't ever heard of the conference play...Sounds like a pretty good idea!
