I'd like to get everyones opinion on high school coaches that contact kids from other schools and try to persuade them to come to their school. Is this the right thing to do? Should a coach build his program with the (local) kids already in his feeder system? Or would you encourage him to do whatever it takes to stay competitive, even if it means going to other schools to get players? I'd like to hear everyones opinion on this.

For one isnt it illegal...and for two it happens everywhere and there is nothing we can do about it. I for one hate it, but if a coach has to stoop so low to recruit just to feel that they have chance then he isnt a coach. A coach should use the players that he is offered, being the ones that come from the feeder programs but it doesnt work that way.

i dont have a problem with it..accepting a coaching job means that you will do anything to help the kids and have a winning season..so getting kids to come to their school is just trying to improve and help their team..so i see nothing wrong with it..

Thats one way to look at it. On the other hand....is it fair to the local kids? Thats the reason I started this thread, to get everyones opinion. Thanks for the reply.

"Recruiting" is a violation of KHSAA rules. I do not think it wise to include cheating as an example of doing all one can to help one's kids win. If all that matters is winning, then let's take a chainsaw to the opponent's best player's legs, because, after all, it helps the kids win.

Extremely well said.
