Owsley 73 Breathitt 31
#1
Lady Owls controlled game from tip. Was running clock for most of second half. Owsley was led in scoring by Gibson with 34 and 19. Lynch had 16. Creech 13. Murray with 12 rebounds.

Lady Owls are getting better every game.

Should be a good semifinal against Knott

Owsley has really looked good the last two games. They have a big test of a game next Saturday but I think the way they’re playing they will advance.

Not to take anything away from Owsley, but has Breathitt ever been this bad?

I agree. They definitely aren’t the usual Breathitt team. They could have really used the Brewer girl who is now at Estill.
#6
Could have used the big girl at Hazard and the other girl that transferred from Jackson City school as well as the Gross girl who isn't playing. Both Jackson City girls live in the county district. There's a reason all these girls aren't on Breathitt's squad. The transfers and not playing this year are a result of the coaching situation. Political hire of a young fellow with no coaching or playing experience. Can you blame these young ladies. Breathitt only has 10 players total on the squad and three of these are seventh grader and two eighth graders.

I think David Kyle is doing the best he can with what he has to work with. As Wannacat mentioned earlier, this is a "very young team" and if they continue to work hard, they will be a very good team in a couple of years. As far as the transfers, I have no idea why they left. I know the boys team had two starters that left as well.

Come on CatDaddy. You dont know why these girls left or why the two girls were at JCS to start with? If David Kyle is not picked as coach we may have top rated team in the region. With the two JCS girls, two transfers, and Gross girl not playing, not to mention the Noble girl that stuck around. I would put this squad up against anyone in the region. LOL

It's not like these girls are going to programs with better coaches or better programs, with the exception of Hazard. Breathitt beat Jackson City, on their home court and Estill County has a 5-9 record. Now, I'm sure Estill would beat Breathitt, but it's not like any of these girls transferred to a program that is competing for a regional title. At the end of the day, I think we need to give David Kyle a chance to build this team. If he fails to do so, then move on.

Owsley put a beat down and it could had been a lot worse.

Breathitt needs to stop hiring and firing for selfish political reasons. This is the result. Yes, poor young coach has little to work with and all his best players left for greener pastures. There is a reason why all this happened and we all know why. Backwards ideas and practices get you put in the back of the pack. Natural selection.

Why did all of this happen? Fill me in, because I must be out of the loop.

Because when a program or a person or anything becomes toxic, good runs from it. They hired someone who doesn't know how to play or to coach. He hasn't put his dues in and as a player, you can't respect someone. It's like a boss telling you hurry up, dig that ditch when he or she has never even picked up a shovel.

That's why Breathitt's program is down in the dumps and why their best players are leaving. No one wants to play for someone that they don't respect and can't learn from.
#13
Or do you mean, why did they hire David Kyle Abner who has no experience as a player or a coach? It's politics. Give someone a job and a break. In this case, they don't deserve and who ends up suffering are the players and community. It's selfish and backwards.

In my opinion, NO, he does not deserve a chance. There were several qualified applicants for this job and he shouldn't have been given a chance to start with. These girls were the ones who should have been given a chance. Imagine your a senior on this squad or a junior even and told a guy with no playing or coaching experience is the new coach. How would this make you feel? Would you feel like your efforts were important to the administration. That you were as important as the boys team who just got a $100,000 coach to led them? This guy should be replaced immediately!! The girls deserve to be taught and coach by a qualified coach. This situation is embarrassing to school, community and tradition of BHS lady basketball. We are down to 10 players. Over half the squad is from SMS. Only four players on the squad actually attend BHS.

Who were the several qualified applicants?

For one thing, anyone else who applied would have been more qualified. Not going to name names but a former miss basketball was one applicant. A former boys standout player and both boy/girls assistant during a state tournament year was another. I can go on there was 3 more.

Guys, let's keep it on topic.
#18
I'll give you some names, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. All 3 have more experience.

I'm done trying to discuss this in a productive manner. I simply asked who applied for the job, and I get a childish remark instead. I didn't know it was a "secret" on who applied.

You asked? I answered honestly.

No, I honestly don't know, it wasn't a rhetorical question. The only person the was rumored to have interviewed was the Collette Cole who played a few years back and went to Eastern. Other than that, I have no clue.

You are no doubt correct in saying Mickey, Donald and Goofy had more experience. At least they were in the movie Space Jam.
