Powell 80 Estill 78
#1
Superb basketball game...38-36 Powell at
the half...Estill's best player (and senior)
Cody Berryman got in foul trouble (eventually
fouled out) and did not have a good game...but
Powell defended him well to their credit. Estill's
young players (Cackling and Baber) stepped up
big and kept the Engineers in the game. Powell's
guards played very well, as they drove to the basket
all night and finished. Though Estill is only two years
in the 14th, this Estill/Powell game is quickly becoming
a fierce rivalry. Both student sections were excellent.
Congratulations to Powell County for their victory...
and to Estill Co. for their great effort.

danny dennis had close to if not 30+ points this game. im not going to say the refs were great, cause if you watched the game, you know. if powell would have hit their free throws, they would have won by close to 15 they missed that many. the game would have been a blowout if powell would have hit their free throws. highlight of the night, powell county's kris adams gets a the ball off a turnover and throws it down in the first quarter. great game on both sides, #33 baber, had a good game, he needs to stick with football cause one day someone will lay him out the way he plays. but it works, he is physical, but too physical. powell played one of the most exciting games this season. go cut em down saturday pirates!!!!!!

Powell shot 40 Fts and Estill 20. The refs fouled out 4 Estill players. Berryman fouled out with close to 4 minutes left on a phantom call. Dennis and Kinzer had great games. Baber played a great game and he is not too physical - he backed Romans down and had him intimidated - which he does to everyone else he plays. Congrats Pirates. GO OWLS!!!!

why does powell co have to cry even after a win now you should understand why ever one hates Powell. Jsb and powell are the two teams in the 14 th that ever one hated and pulls against and this is way.Powell you do it to yourself ever time i wish i could pull for you in the reg but i cant because you cant even win with class.

The free throws were not that lopsided in reality...perhaps ten of those
free throws by Powell came late in the game when Estill was fouling to
try and catch up...also, Powell went to the basket more often, while,
especially in the second half, Estill took more jump shots and stayed
outside. Last, Berryman fouled a jump shooter for his fourth foul...
and went over the back for his fifth...neither call was all that dicey...
Free throws attempted, when taken out of context, are just one more
in a long line of misleading statistical data...It was a great game...let's
not diminish it with lot of babblerap....

Berryman contested a shot on the 4th foul. He went up with another player and tried to tip the ball away - WHILE BOTH were in the air - not over the back (which is not an official basketball violation anyway it is classified as a push). The Engineers didn't try to foul except for the last 1:25 or so and that resulted in about 6 FT's. If you want misleading then why don't you consider the discrepancies in the aggressiveness of the defense that both teams were allowed on their defensive end. Like always, Powell was allowed to push and control the offensive player with their hands and chest while Estill defenders were called for fouls when doing considerably less. I am not taking anything away from the efforts of the Powell players. I am pointing out that two sets of rules exist between Estill and the rest of the 14th. I wish somebody would tell me how many years the Engineers have to be a member of the 14th before they receive their honorary member pin and get to play by the same rules as the charter members. And what the heck is babblerap isn't it that stuff that you wrap dishes with when you move?

uh...that might be bubble wrap...I guess fouls are in eye of the beholder...Powell played a 2-2-1 type zone press, some man, and quite a bit of aggressive 2-3 late in the game. Estill played man-to-man pretty much all the game. I guess it is plausible to argue that Estill Co. has not been in the 14th long enough to get an "honorary member" status; however, "babblerap"
is the back end term from a song by Alan Parson's Project, the whole of which is psychobabblerap. "Babblerap" would be speech which tends to distort in order to confuse. I do not think that the officiating was the reason Estill Co. lost the basketball game. They gave up too many easy baskets and settled for too many outside shots in the second half.

I was at the game last night and Powell did play well but there were some very questionable calls, as there are in every game that is played. It did get rough, a little too rough if you ask me and the refs didn't do too much to control the game. As for Estill having a different set of rules, I think its more of Powell having a different set of rules. No matter the sport or be it girls or boys they always get by way more than their opponent. I've been there, played through it and continue to see it. Go Owls in the finals! I'm sure the student section will loud on Saturday!

I agree. I'm sure student sections will be very loud Saturday night. Student sections are expected to be loud, and since they are kids, sometimes we expect them to get carried away and shout things that maybe shouldnt be shouted. On the other hand, expectations should be much higher for the adult fans in the crowd. I was at the game last night too and witnessed adult Powell fans shouting very personal, rude remarks to Coach Tiller and his staff from behind the bench. Give me a break! It is insane for ADULT fans to yell profanity remarks to a coaching staff. From what I could see, Coach Tiller handled this situation with the utmost class. Hats off to the ECHS coaching staff and the Engineers. GO OWLS!!

Powell played a great game last night, and what an awesome victory it was for the Pirates.. Estill did good, and kept up with Powell all night, I have to give them credit for that.. But over all Powell did well and they definetly deserved the win. Congrats to the Pirates!!! Good luck on Saturday!!

Both teams played very well with alot of respect.....them student sections was very loud....i dont believe powell's sit down the whole game...mostly up jumping up and down...estill only sit when a couple of turnover occured...pretty well reffed game on both sides...estill had more fouls due to the late fouling at the end of the game.....good luck to powell on saturday

I would like to know what you are talking about? No one cried after their win. Plus I thought the reffing for the game was good. The fouls were even. It looked different because the fouls for estill were all on a few guys who had a lot of fouls and for Powell all of the guys got about two fouls or so called on them so it was a little more spread out. All in all a good game. Congrats to the Pirates and I was really proud of you Engineers. Hats off to the seniors, you were great, especially Cody.
