I think every team looked better than Lex Carholic, but, knocking of Central and E;Town getting there wasn't an easy road,so, you know they were better than what they showed in that game, Belfry was just on another level, got up and poured it on.. JC also looked very mediocre, but, SWs defense made a lot of teams look very average this year..

With a healthy quarter back two running backs hurt its hard to play at full speed our kids never quite pluse Bryce played quarter back on one leg so how could you think they were going to look

South warren and Belfry are about even

I disagree, South Warren couldn't win it in 3A last year and they are close to 5A numbers. Of course that is just my opinion.

RunItUpTheGut Wrote:IF, the state was still only four classes, who would win?

Mayfield, Belfry, South Warren, and Male?

Male over Pulaski, BG, Lafayette in 4A
South Warren over Lex Cath, and JC in 3A
Belfry over NCC in 2A
Mayfield over Pikeville, Beechwood in 1A?

Not sure how the alignment numbers would look now, but I would have to think they would be close to this.

And there is still arguments for four classes SMH.

They way the two teams played in BG, there is no way to assume Mayfield would have beaten Pikeville.

Last year has nothing to do with this year.

I agree. Just made a little reference as to what teams would have been in what class.
Four classes would have changed a lot. Belfry would have most likely had to play Desales as well, but I was just listing the teams that actually went to state.

The competition would have been better in the first few rounds, but I don't think the state games get any better with 4 classes. With the exception of Male, who may beat anybody in the country, the rest of the title games were pretty good.

Wow!! Really insightful. :eyeroll: South Warren got beat out in 3A last year and couldn't even make to the finals with basically a 5A enrollment. Then they got moved up to a very weak 4A and won. That doesn't prove they are above anyone. Louisville Central would probably beat them this year again. They played a weak schedule. I never once said that Belfry would dominate them but that Belfry was the better team. Just compare the scores, Belfry shut out Johnson Central and played mostly subs the second half winning 41 - 0. South Warren won 36 - 6 playing the starters almost entire game.

Didn't JC have a number of starters out when they played Belfry?

Pikeville would have beaten Mayfield this season

Since you insist on bringing up last year as a barometer and refusing to recognize that maybe SWarren is much better this year, then you also have to look at how Belfry fared last year vs Johnson Central.. How'd that turn out?

Possible, but, doubtful.. Beechwood ain't Mayfield and while the Cards don't always look like gang busters, they do usually win.. Pikeville is no Desales either and in my book OB Catholic would beat Pikeville, too. When Pikeville runs through a guantlet like Mayfield did, let me know..

I know exactly how Belfry faired last year against Johnson Central when Belfry was missing basically 8 starters. They turned around and got healthy and won 3A. They faired pretty good I would say. A task South Warren failed to do with the enrollement size of an almost 5A school playing in 3A. I have no doubt South Warren has gotten better, but you need to recognize that they got better playing weaker competition. Any team can look better when they play weaker competition. I'm not saying South Warren is terrible at all. They have a good ball team and should receive all the accolades they get for their accomplishments. I'm just trying to make a point that they are not head and shoulders above Belfry this year. These are all just opinions, you have yours and I have mine. No big deal.

EKU said there was 3, I'm pretty sure it was only 2 full time starters. I don't know where your going with your question but I think I do and Workman was no where near 100% in the title game. But 2 players would not have made a difference in the Belfry game. Belfry called off the dogs earlly and could have been much worse. South Warren played to the very end and still did not beat them like Belfry did.
