3A Playoff Bracket
#31
Basing playoff assumptions on the way a team played in its second game of the year is a flawed algorithm. Central is often a lesson learned late in the year. They may win and they may lose, but they are usually there in the thick of it and end up holding the trophy.

Belfry will win it all

The Russell team Bath County saw last Friday night is not the same team from earlier in the season. The Fleming County game was the turning point for their season. They are clicking and will be a VERY tough out on their field regardless of whoever they play. Do not be surprised if they end up in Bowling Green.

Fleming at most will have 13 or 14 points and both Russell and West Carter have that beat easy. If Russell beats Raceland they have 21 points and they have the #1 seed. If Russell loses, but still is tied with West Carter in points at 19 then it still goes to Russell because Russell beat West Carter in the head-to-head matchup this year and Russell will still get #1 seed. All Russell has to do Friday night is beat Raceland and they lock-up the #1 Seed in the 3A Region 5!

This is incorrect. Read the rules. If it is tied, they continue to count the wins of the teams both Russell and West have beat. West wins if they tie after 4 games because they will have one extra point (from East Carter's win over West Union). It only goes to head to head if they cannot break the tie based on teams that were beaten. Its part three of the tiebreaker and head to head is part 4.

Read the rules people.

Because he was wrong.

Quote:b) TIE-BREAKER (more than two teams). Should three or more
teams tie for the a district position based upon the win-loss
record, the position shall be determined by the following:
i) If one of the teams has defeated each of the other teams
tied in games contested between them, that team shall be
declared to hold the highest position, and the winner of the
game between the remaining teams (if less than four) shall
be declared the second highest position. In the event of
more than three teams being tied, where one has defeated
each of the tied teams, that team shall be declared the
highest position, and the tie-breaking procedure shall be
re-applied for the remaining tied teams.
ii) If the tie remains, each team tied for the position shall
receive one point for each game won by any four of their
defeated opponents in all games, except for the games
played between any two of the tied teams. All games played
shall be counted in applying the tie-breaking procedure,
including out of state games, with the exception that a
defeated school may be counted only once in the procedure
regardless of the number of games played against that
particular school. Teams awarded forfeit victories (whether
or not a forfeit fee is paid) may count the defeated opponents
of the forfeiting team, provided the game was not replaced
on the schedule.
iii) If the tie remains after application of provision (ii), an
additional defeated opponent’s wins will be added to the
point total for each team until the tie is broken and the
winner of the tied position declared, or until all games are
exhausted.

iv) If the tie for the position involves only three teams, and the
application of (ii) and (iii) results in one team being declared
the winner of the tied position based on point totals, the
highest point total from the application of (ii) and (iii)
between the two remaining tied teams shall be declared to
hold the next position.

Part three is where this ends. Russell and West cannot tie in tiebreaker 2, without Russell losing tonight and West winning (unless some true craziness goes on). Therefore, if they tie in points after 4 teams wins are counted, they go on to the next win to see if a tie is broken, until all opponents have been used. West would have one extra victory, 8 wins vs. the 7 wins on the season for Russell. West Carter's win over East (and East's win over West Union), breaks the tie if there is one.

I know what Coach Scroggins has there at Central a fast physical team that plays a loaded schedule and they see teams that are far better than most ANY competition in 3A. 3- 6A teams Manual, St X. and PRP, a 4A Knox Central, a 2A Christian Academy Louisville. Yeah you might lose the first 2 games of the year, it's not how you start it's how you finish! The jackets have a bitter taste from their game with Belfry last year and will try to avenge it this year! Boyle might have a great team but to go to Louisville and win I'm not so sure! I had it marked since last years loss it would be a rematch and nothing has made me think otherwise.
