RICHMOND, Ky. â This Saturday, the Eastern Kentucky University football team returns to the friendly confines of Roy Kidd Stadium to take on two-time defending league champion Eastern Illinois. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
Saturday's game can be seen for FREE on the OVC Digital Network.
All kids 12-and-under will be admitted free to the football game as part of the annual 'Kid's Day' promotion. Postgame fireworks are scheduled following the game.
The No. 16 Colonels (5-0, 2-0 OVC) are off to their best start since the 1990 season. A major reason for Eastern Kentucky's success can be attributed to turnover margin and points off turnovers. Since turning the ball over four times in the opener, EKU has a turnover margin of +10 and has outscored the opposition in points off turnovers, 45-7.
Eastern Illinois (1-4, 1-0) has won 13 consecutive league games dating back to 2012. Last year, the Panthers held Eastern Kentucky to a season-low 97 yards passing in 42-7 victory over the Colonels. EIU's main offensive weapon is quarterback Jalen Whitlow. The dual-threat player leads the team in both passing (793 yards) and rushing (395 yards). The Panthers have not turned the ball over in the last two games after turning it over 10 times in their first three contests.

This is going to be a very, very tough game for the Colonels. Don't let EIU's 1-4 record fool you--they are a darn good FCS football team. Their 4 losses are to FBS teams Minnesota and Ohio U as well as FCS #13 Southern Illinois and #15 Illinois State. In addition they get all-OVC running back Shepard Little back after missing the last 2 1/2 games. This will be the best team the Colonels have faced so far, and that includes FBS Miami. Huge game for the Colonels, I hope there is a big crowd at Roy Kidd Stadium--we need all the help that we can get.
In another note CB Stanley Absanon's targeting penalty was overturned so he will be available all game instead of just the 2nd half. That helps the Colonel defense big time.
