Any thoughts or comments on upcoming season,rivalries,teams,players etc?

I watched the kid from Beatttyville play a couple of times last year. I think he's a senior this year. He's better than any kid from Owsley. He's probably top 3 in district.

I wish they would re-disctrict and move the 56th out of the 14th region and move in Clay, Harlan, Red Bird and Oneida, that would make the 14th much stronger and funner to watch. The 56th schools right now are just a win for all the other schools in the 14th and just bring the overall strength of the region down. The 7 guys you listed above couldn't be all on the same team and compete in the 14th, not even the all A, Why are the teams so weak in that district, do they not play summer ball like everyone else? are their coaches that weak and can't improve players? something is wrong and definitely needs to be fixed.

56th is very competative and win the regions very regularly in baseball and softball.
Girls basketball, we are normally competative.
Volleyball, Powell always has a good team.
Other sports, football and golf are in different regions.

So, as I have stated above, this is a mute and ignorant point to move 56th of out region because our boys basketball can't compete. However, we can compete with the other district that have true local grown boys on their team.

Well I would have to agree with D1recruiter on this one! After all this is a BOYS BASKETBALL PAGE, so that is what he/she was talking about. And furthermore, to have a region as stretched out as the 14th is absolutely ridiculous. To go from Jenkins to Estill county is absurd, that is a 3 hour bus ride and totally uncalled for, and Powell to Jenkins isn't much better. For the regions sake they should definitely remove the whole 56 district, if they aren't in the 14th region in every sport that should give you some idea of how stupid it is to have them in the region in the first place. Sorry they can't compete in the region that they should be in, so they had to put in to get out of that region and get in a mountain region, again ridiculous. Estill does not belong in this region and neither does Powell county, PERIOD! Would definitely be better with teams closer to the middle of the region, like Clay and Harlan. :Clap:

The 14th is not the only region in the state that is "stretched out". Wayne County in the 12th is not exactly a hop and a jump from the Jessamine County schools. Jackson County in the 13th is a long way from the Harlan County schools. Clark County has a long drive to the Northern Kentucky schools when they play, as well as going northeast to play Mason County. Clinton County is a good distance from the schools in the western part of the 4th region. As a matter of fact, the only regions that aren't "spread out" are the 6th and 7th. I agree, it is a long way from Estill County to Jenkins, but the Engineers have to be somewhere. At one time they were in the 11th region with Bluegrass schools and were the farthest school located to the southeast of that region. Then they were in the 10th region for many years, but they also ran into distance problems in that region too, being the farthest school located in the south of the 10th region. Now they're in the 14th and they are still located a great distance from other member schools, being the farthest school located to the northeast. So, they have to be in a region, and the 14th is as good as any. Powell County, a school 20 minute drive from Irvine, has been in the 14th region over 70 years. Why all the outcry now???

As to the other point you made, you must think that basketball is the only sport in the 14th region. The 56th district has dominated the softball title since Estill came into the region in 2006, losing only two of them since then. And Estill, Powell, and Lee have won more regional titles in baseball since 2000 than any other district.

Maybe some of the 53rd and 54th schools need to join the 13th or 15th region. Maybe that would solve your problem with the 56th.
But the 56th district is in the 14th to stay. Get use to it.

And as far as Estill and Powell not being "mountain" schools, anyone that believes that needs to take a trip to those two counties. There's no more mountainous and steep terrain anywhere than the Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge area of Powell County. And the mountainous sections of Estill County...WHEW!!! Try going across Cow Creek Mountain on route 52 and see what I mean. That is one steep, curvy mountain for sure, and it takes abot 15 minutes to cross it. Most people avoid it by going around the River Road when traveling from the east into Irvine. If it snows just a light dusting they still aren't able to have school in Estill.

Just a little geography lesson. The 56th district is a mountain district. Owsley and Lee, the other two member schools, are hilly and mountainous too. Estill and Powell fit very well into the 14th.

As far as distances, it's a long drive for their fans too whenever the region is held in Hindman or Hazard. But it would also be a long drive for them if they were in the 10th region and had to drive to Mason County or the new arena in Northern Kentucky. There's no getting around having expansive regions in the state, unless you live in Louisville.
