I covered this one for the Times Tribune tonight. Check it out in tomorrow's paper.
It was close the entire game, until Levi Barton hit a three-pointer to put Whitley County up 50-47. Harlan County missed on their next possession and Sasko score to give them a five point lead. It was over after that.
Here is the box score -
Whitley County 12 11 17 17 – 57
Harlan County 13 11 17 9 – 50
Whitley County (57) – Sasko 16, Barton 13, Woods 13, Crisologo 10, Corey Johnson 3, Petrey 2
Harlan County (50) – Bumgardener 14, Scotty Bailey 14, Spurlock 13, Trey Sanders 7, Zach Caldwell 2

Whitley can beat anybody in the region.
Problem is, they can also lose to anybody in the region.
If they play well, they beat teams like Bell, HC, Corbin, and Bville.
When they don't play well, they lose to teams like Wburg, leslie and Rock.
Should be an interesting tourney next week.
Best year of boys bball I remember in a long time. They finish up with mccreary tomorrow night, which they should win putting them at 17-12 going into district against corbin.

It'll be tough for them to beat Corbin at Corbin in the first round of the district. But, 17 wins is great for Whitley Co.
I would think South Laurel will be the favorite coming into next season, but Whitley should be ranked ahead of Corbin, preseason, I would believe.

I thought Luke Woods hitting both ends of the bonus with 15 seconds to push the lead to 5 were big shots, especially the front end.

This was a great game to watch! Tit for tat; back and forth. LOL
I'm glad to see your score, TriCounty because I certainly was convinced that the final score showing on the boards was incorrect. It wouldn't have made a difference in the out come, but that score keeper had a tough time keeping up with it.
Whitley Co has some really quick kids and showed me a lot of heart. I believe that one kid that kept hitting threes from the corner.....are you kidding me?? Last night, he could've shot from the parking lot and made it.
Great job, Whitley!
