53rd:
1. Knott County Central (6-0) (vs. Cordia 2/4, @ Jenkins 2/6)
2. Cordia (3-1) (@ Knott County Central 2/4, vs. Letcher County Central 2/7, @ JBS 2/10, vs. Jenkins 2/13)
3. Letcher County Central (3-3) (@ Cordia 2/7)
4. June Buchanan (2-5) (vs. Cordia 2/10)
5. Jenkins (0-5) (vs. Knott County Central 2/6, @ Cordia 2/13)
Cordia would have to beat Knott by 14 @ Knott and win out to get the 1 seed (highly unlikely they beat Knott @ Knott by 14+).
I'd say that right there is what it will end up being. Letcher Central needs to beat Cordia @ Cordia by 2+ to get the 2 seed (won't matter because they'll face each other in district)
54th:
1. Perry County Central (2-0) (@ Hazard 2/7)
2. Hazard (1-1) (vs. Perry County Central 2/7)
3. Buckhorn (2-2)
4. Leslie County (0-2)
District is a blind draw
55th:
1. Breathitt County (2-0) (@ Wolfe County 2/3, vs. Jackson City 2/8, @ Riverside Christian 2/20)
2. Wolfe County (2-1) (vs. Breathitt County 2/3)
3. Jackson City (1-3) (@ Breathitt County 2/8, vs. Riverside Christian 2/15)
4. Riverside Christian (0-1) (@ Jackson City 2/15, vs. Breathitt County 2/20)

56th:
1. Estill County (3-0) (vs. Owsley County 1/31, @ Lee County 2/10, vs. Powell County TBD)
2. Powell County (3-1) (@ Estill County TBD, @ Owsley County 2/4)
3. Owsley County (1-3) (@ Estill County 1/31, vs. Powell County 2/4, @ Lee County 2/6)
4. Lee County (0-4) (vs. Owsley County 2/6, vs. Estill County 2/10)
KHSAA shows Estill at 4-0 in district play, one of the games against Owsley County was played in a tournament which doesn't count towards district standings so they currently are 3-0.
Powell County would have to beat Estill by 9+ and win out to grab the one seed....Estill County needs to win out or atleast win two more games to grab the one seed.
Lee County needs to beat Owsley by 7+ @ Lee to get out of the four spot...Owsley needs to beat Powell by like 40+ and needs to beat Lee to get grab the 2 seed.

So why does Perry's loss to Hazard count in their rankings if the Estill/Owsley game doesn't count in theirs?

Zaga I'm glad you caught that. I went back and edited it.

I hope Perry and Hazard DO NOT draw each other first round.
If they do, it's dumb IMO.

Don't worry - If Perry is "officially" undefeated in something I'll let you know

Both teams are good this year, so don't worry, they WILL draw each other. I figured the 2004 game would be evidence enough to kill the draw, considering the blind draw essentially caused the regional championship to be played in the first round of district (no disrespect to Breathitt, but Perry/Hazard were the top teams that season).

To be honest...
Hazard was the best team in the 14th that entire year.
But if you're not the best team for an hour-and-a-half in late Feb/early March it could be over quick.

Yea.. Of course perry and hazard will draw each other.
I don't know what forces let it happen, but anyone who knows anything about the 54th foresees this way before it happens.

I hope hazard draws perry
That would be great

Never fails in the 54th, the top two teams will always draw each other.

Lee County defeated Owsley by just a few points tonight, not enough to get out of the 4th seed....Owsley (3rd) and Lee (4th) going into the district tournament. Estill and Powell will battle for 1 & 2 next week.
54th: Leslie vs. Hazard, Perry vs. Buckhorn
55th: Wolfe vs. Riverside, Breathitt vs. Jackson City

You got to have that majority to get rid of the blind draw.
Buckhorn and Leslie need to man up and make the regular season mean something.

Your 100% correct.

If Lee beats Estill, that would make Lee the 3 seed. So none of the seeds are determined yet. Lee and Owsley could be 3 or 4, while Powell and Estill could be 1 or 2.

Is that what all the people who went to Dilce Combs have always thought or just in the last 15 or however many years since they have combined to the biggest school in this region. When Dilce was Dilce, they always voted to draw.
Also, you say Buckhorn & Leslie need to man up. How about Perry & Hazard man up & play with their own kids instead of transfers?

There can only be one state champion basketball.
I don't know what Dilce did, nor do I care. I couldn't even tell you a single player that played for Dilce or what there freaking mascot was.
I can tell you its time that all district be seeded.
I would much rather see the top two teams go to region in every district. Its absurd that we still have blind draws. That's the number one thing the KHSAA should do away with.
02-08-2014, 02:25 AM
If perry and hazard didn't have transfers they would still beat buckhorn and Leslie the majority of the time. And let's be honest if Leslie or buckhorn got a really good transfer they would play them and I'm pretty sure buckhorn got a transfer
02-08-2014, 02:26 AM
And buckhorn will vote to seed in the next couple of years

The number one thing that the KHSAA should do away with is recruiting, but I digress..

You have just as good of chance making it to region w/ the seed as you do the draw!!! Just look at the numbers since it has went to a 4 team district. Talk about the transfers or recruits all you want but it doesn't change the fact that Leslie/Buckhorn would have just as good chance to make it to region. Btw, if I would have been coaching Dilce I would have voted to seed! No reason for it not to be that way. All the draw can do is hurt the better teams. If the lesser team pulls the upset so be it!!! I still think the 54th WILL be seed in 2015!

History time here....
what do you all consider the biggest upset of each district in the 14th for all time?

2012 when Buckhorn shocked the world and beat PCC when they had Jaysean Paige. PCC was VERY good that year. I truly believe they would have played Saturday morning w/ a very good chance to beat Scott County.
