Christian Academy-Louisville 27 DeSales 24
#1
Final
#2
Huge win for Christian Academy. They have established themselves as a contender.
#3
Was this the same DeSales team that was gonna up end Caldwell? Surely this was their jv or freshmen.
#4
Wow... wat happened to this desales team.. lol.
#5
Two teams in this district with a shot at Caldwell County.

You can't turn the ball over against good teams. We did it last year against Caldwell, and we did it again last night. 3 crucial turnovers that lead to CAL scores. I will say this. I hate losing, but it's better to lose now, then in a few weeks. We'll see CAL again in the playoffs. They will not beat us twice.
#7
I remember hearing how they committed all those turnovers last year. Sometimes that happens because the other team is better and your team is pressing.

His offensive line coach was telling him to "run, run, run," but Christian Academy coach Stefan LeFors had a feeling Friday's game against rival DeSales would come down to the passing attack.

"I told (quarterback Nathan Christmas) before the game that at some point the game is going to be on his shoulders and he'd have to make a play," LeFors said. "He did tonight."

Christmas passed for 214 yards and four touchdowns as the host Centurions beat DeSales 27-24 in front of an estimated crowd of 3,000.

CAL (9-0, 6-0) continued the best start in program history and clinched its third straight Class 2-A, District Four regular-season crown. CAL will wrap up its regular season Nov. 1 at Male before opening the playoffs at home Nov. 8.

"The school's on fire right now for football, and it should be," LeFors said. "What a great night."

DeSales (7-1, 4-1) -- No. 8 in the state in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings -- got solid ground games from running back Dylan Byrd (26 carries, 123 yards) and quarterback Nathan Roush (15 carries, 80 yards, one touchdown).

But coach Harold Davis' biggest fears were realized as the DeSales defense faced a solid passing attack for the first time this season and couldn't contain it.

"We haven't had a bad game, and I don't know if we had a bad game today," Davis said. "We just saw something we hadn't seen this year. We'll learn from it and move on."

Adam Nord's second touchdown run of the game -- a 1-yarder -- gave DeSales a 14-7 lead with 9:51 left in the second quarter before CAL rallied.

Chad Lewellyn intercepted Roush's first pass and returned it 35 yards to the Colts' 19-yard line. Four plays later Christmas hit Cal Lewellyn -- Chad's younger brother -- for a 21-yard TD pass on fourth down to tie the score at 14.

The Centurions got the ball back with 1:54 left in the half and took the lead for good. Christmas completed three consecutive passes on the drive, the last one a 19-yard TD connection with Chad Lewellyn for a 20-14 edge with 56.5 seconds left in the half.

Christmas' nine completions for the game went to six different receivers. Chad Lewellyn (three catches, 64 yards) and Nate Smith (two catches, 86 yards, one touchdown) led the group.

"They caught everything I threw to them," the QB said.

Christmas' final TD pass -- a 13-yarder to Nick Payne -- gave CAL a 27-14 lead with 4:59 left in the third quarter. CAL's defense took over from there.

With 9:20 left, Byrd was stopped for a 1-yard gain on fourth and 2 at the 5-yard line. With 5:18 left, Byrd fumbled on first and goal at the 4-yard line. Chad Lewellyn made the hit, and teammate Chuck Williams recovered.

LeFors said his defense continued its season-long bend-but-don't-break ways.

"Byrd and Roush are a heck of a combination," LeFors said. "You're not going to stop them, but to slow them down and force them to move the ball methodically, you have a chance."

Roush's 4-yard TD run and two-point conversion pass to Graham Goin pulled the Colts within 27-24 with 31.4 seconds left. But CAL's Tanner Lopez recovered the pooch kick to seal the CAL victory.

"It's huge," LeFors said of the district title. "(DeSales) did their part leading up to this game, and we did our part leading up to this game. We knew it would be a heck of a game, and our guys came through and made plays."

That could spell bad news for the Colt's when you consider that the winner of that region will have to come to Princeton in Nov. The team there can pass and will pass a lot.
#11
Looks to me like DeSales will have a tough postseason path. Could potentially have to win road games at Glasgow, at CAL and at Caldwell to get to the finals.

Not saying it can't be done, but that's a pretty stiff lineup.
#12
I still like Caldwell out of the pack.
