Top Ten 1a games of the week 8-31-13
#1
Please remember these are the top 10 games of 1a teams for the week. This does not mean the top 10 teams of 1a. Also remember the rankings listed for the teams are from the preseason poll, as I have not yet seen any updated polls.

1) Hazard #3 @ Pikeville #7
Well, lets get right down to it in 1a on only the second week of play in Ky.
These 2 teams are 2 of the top teams predicted to be fighting it out for
east side of the state. We have Hazard who was 9-3 last season, and has
not yet played this year, traveling to Pikeville. Pikeville was 7-6 last
season and was one of the teams that arrived to the top rung late in the
season. This should be a barn burner and very physical. Pikeville
started this season strong with a win last week over 2a Prestonburg.

2) Fort Campbell (3a) @ Russellville #5
This game should let the Panthers have somewhat of an understanding of
where they stand in their district and in all of the west side of the state.
The Panthers finished last season off at 8-4. Fort Campbell finished last
season at 9-3. The Panthers started the season by beating another 3a
school in Trigg Co 41-21. The season started the opposite for Fort
Campbell, as the Falcons fell to 1a defending state champs in Mayfield by
a margin of 21-37.

3) McCracken Co (6a) @ Mayfield #1
This should be a big test for the Cardinals of 1a. They are going up
against a deep 6a team that has lots of speed. The Mustangs have not
been together long enough to have a tradition but they just lost a tough
home opener to a talented rival of Mayfield's, in Paducah Tilghman. In
that game the Mustangs displayed an attitude that they believe they
should be among the best in the area. The Cards started the season on
the other side of the spectrum in defeating another tough 3a team, Fort
Campbell.

4) Bellevue #12 @ Harlan
Bellevue could help propel themselves into the top 10 with a win in this
game and a little help. Harlan finished the season last year with a mark
of 6-6. Bellevue finished at 7-5 last year. Bellevue gave Beechwood a
very good game last year and would like to improve upon that. Bellevue
started the season this year with a heart breaking 1 point lost to 2a
Walton-Verona.

5) Williamsburg #11 @ North Laurel (5a)
The Jackets have been asked to step up their competition and this game
is a step in the right direction. The Jackets finished last season on a high
mark at 11-2. They have also started the season with a win over a
somewhat bigger school from Tn. North Laurel is no push over for the
Yellowjackets though. They finished last season with a mark of 6-5 and
started the 2013 season with a big win over another Tn team last week.

6) Fairview #6 @ East Carter (3a)
Fairview has been waiting since December for another shot at winning a
game. Fairview has an opportunity to prove they belong in the spot light
again. The Eagles left the field last season with a mark of 14-1 and the
State Runneer Up trophy. The Eagles lost a lot of skill positions to
graduation, but feel they have what it takes. This is their opportunity to
open eyes again. They will be facing a 3a team that just lost this past
week to the Eagles' district rivals, the Raceland Rams.

7) Raceland #8 @ Ashland Blazer (4a)
The Rams have really upgraded their schedule this year and this is just
another example. The Rams finished last season with a mark of 9-3 and
feel they have what it takes to make a good run at state this year. They
started the season on a strong note last week defeating East Carter of
3a by a score of 40-14. Ashland Blazer also opened some eyes last week
by playing a respectable game against the defending 2a state champs of
Newport Central Catholic. Ashland Blazer finished 2012 with a mark of
9-3.

8) South Floyd @ Pineville
South Floyd finished last season with a mark of 5-6. They have started
the 2013 season with a disappointing loss to Magoffin Co by a score of
0-48. Pineville wants to improve upon a mark of 6-6 from last year.
They also started the season on the wrong end of a lopsided 32-55 loss
to Paintsville last week.

9) Nicholas County @ Berea
This game is a chance for Nicholas County to get on a role early in the
season. Nicholas County finished last year with a record of 7-5 and
started off this season with a big win at Bracken County last week. On
the other hand, Berea feels they can return to respectable and want to
get that started soon. Berea finished last year with a mark of 2-8 and
have already had their first lopsided loss of the year against Letcher Co
Central last week.

10) Paris #14 @ Shelby Valley (2a)
Paris has some opportunity here to project themselves further up in the
polls. Paris finished 2012 with a mark of 6-6. They have started the
2013 season with a win over Bath County. Shelby Valley would like to
improve upon their disappointing record of 3-8 from 2012. This game
could be a chance for either team to improve upon their situation from
last year.

So, there they are guys. Check them out and give us your thoughts.

Very good stuff again 55. I really enjoy reading it. I would switch Raceland/Ashland with Bellevue/Harlan. Just IMO. Again, very nice...
#3
I'd move the Raceland/Ashland game up as well. Other than that, I see no problems. Love the previews.

Really enjoying this 55. Great idea. I too would swap out the Raceland/Ashland with the Bellevue/Harlan game.
#6
Mysonis55 I would just allway put mayfield at the top and let the rest of us cry:Sad04::Sad04::Sad04: go Williamsburg in the east :biglmao:
#7
Hazard vs Pikeville will go a long way towards establishing a favorite in the East.
#8
The #1 game this week an 2 others upcoming will be the top 3 of the year for 1a I think. The other 2 will be district games of Fairview @ Raceland and Russellville @ Mayfield.
#9
Good job!
#10
Mayfield is the king of 1A unless a 1A team proves otherwise. Therefore i move Pikeville/Hazard to one, Russellville/PT to 2, and Raceland/Ashland to 3. These 3 games will tell us alot more about Rville, Pville, Hazard and Raceland. Pikeville suprised some ppl i believe. Hazard is still a question mark, Russellville is garning more and more respect, seeing how they fair against them will give us an idea of what kind of comparison they have to Mayfield. Raceland, did enough to win last week, but in underwhelming fashion. Will be interesting to see what happens when they face a formidable opponent.
#11
hazard will be a tough team to beat this year
#12
Love the preview! So much football this week and weekend, we've all been waiting all year for this!
#13
Really looking forward to the Williamsburg - North Laurel game...a good measuring stick for both I think...
#14
Good "work man" .. lol. These write ups are good idea
#15
This week is really got a lot of eye popping games in 1a. This may be one of the more exciting weeks for 1a for a while.
#16
Agree 55, and some of these games could have implications for the post season.
