Andrea Yates Found NOT Guilty
#1
Andrea Yates was insane when she drowned her five children in a bathtub, jury finds.
Yates was accused of drowning her children in the bathtub of their Texas home. Her 2002 murder conviction was overturned because of incorrect testimony by a witness.

I will post more about it when it is posted online

HOUSTON - Jurors found Andrea Yates not guilty by reason of insanity in her children's bathtub drowning deaths.

This is the second trial for the suburban mother who drowned her five young children in a bathtub.

The jury had spent 11 hours Monday and Tuesday trying to determine if Yates was legally insane. Wednesday morning, they reviewed the state's definition of insanity and then asked to see a family photo and candid pictures of the five smiling youngsters. After about an hour of deliberations, they said they had reached a verdict.

In Yates' first murder trial, in 2002, the jury deliberated about four hours before finding her guilty. That conviction was overturned on appeal.

I'm not sure. Anyone who kills their own children has to have some type of serious mental problem. A crime of that nature is just so unbelievable. Something has to be abnormal for it to happen.

Like Look said, a person who would do that has to have something wrong with them. Ironically I just got finished reading the book about Andrea Yates called "Are You There Alone?" She had a long history of serious mental illness and the doctors did not do a great job of providing the treatments needed and working with her enough to get the problem solved. She was never on birth control so that allowed her to keep having children when she never should have. Her diagnosis and medications make her a risk for herself and others. While in the hospital her doctor did not see her regularly enough to monitor any type of progress so the medications weren't working properly. There are so many things that could have prevented such an occurance. The first verdict found her guilty and she was sentenced to life imprisonment but because someone that testified was told that she based her crime on a Law and Order episode that never existed, this trial came up and now she will have life in a mental institution where she needed to be ALL along and her family does not have their five beautiful grandchildren. She needed to be put into a facility that will fill a tub full of water, hold her under until the bubbles stop coming up, and then they jerk her head up only in time to save her and repeat the process again the next day.

Anybody who murdered somebody has a mental problem... she needs to be locked in a insame asylum and never see light again... nobody should ever get off of a murder charge for being insane

She will be. This only means that she will be able to get the help that she needs and not placed in a prison. She will be in a mental Health facility for a very long time. This doesn't mean that she will just walk away.
Welcome to the best site in town! If you need anything, just let me know.

In this case yes she will be placed into treatment but what about murderers that are found competent enough to walk free and not competent enough to stand trial. They need to be in mental health facilities but not all of them are, I know this for a fact. My second cousin was murdered by her husband, he was "insane" at the time of the murder which in fact was a HUGE lie and he was set free after a trial, free as in roaming the streets free.
