Pikeville 74 Prestonsburg 37
#1
Final from Prestonsburg.

With the win, PHS improves to 20-10 and wins 20 games in the regular season for the first time since the '98-99 season, when the Panthers last won the 15th Region.

This win also gives Pikeville at least 20 wins in three consecutive seasons for the first time since the late 1950's under legendary coach John Bill Trivette. Great job to Coach Bart Williams for doing his best to bring this program to prominence in the 15th! Very proud of the successes encountered in the last few years. For something to not have been done in almost 60 years, that is impressive! Also congratulations to Coach Bart Williams on being named the KABC 2013 15th Region Coach of the Year!

Pikeville also moves to 10-0 on the road this season.

In the game, Ray Kasongo broke the single season record for blocked shots in a season at Pikeville. He had 6 blocks tonight, 130 blocks on the year, breaking the old record of 127. Over 4 per game.

Freshman Blaine May led the way for a balanced Panther attack with 14 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. 11 players entered the scoring column for the Maroon and White. Ethan Rowe chipped in 13 in his quest for 6th place all-time at PHS, now trailing Matt Clevenger by 27 points. Will post more stats as I get them.

Ethan Rowe was also named the 2013 KABC 15th Region Player of the Year this week. Great season, Great career! Congrats #24!

Lots to be proud of in the past couple of days for Pikeville Basketball! Thank you to the coaches and players for an outstanding season! Keep it Rolling, HAIL PIKEVILLE!

Too inconsistent to win three games in the regional tournament, especially when two of them will probably be vs. 57th district teams. I really believe this, only reason I post it is for bulletin board material.:devilflam

By that logic there is not a team in the 15th consistent enough to win the region, but somebody will...... It is wide open...

Bulletin board material is already firing people up.Confusedinglepar

What "bulletin board material" man?? Lol

^Pikeville can't get it done.............

Hahaha, I thought you meant the newspaper or something. Pikeville can and will get it done I think. And Ray Kasongo will be unstoppable, he's hungry, got to the Championship last year of course. I heard the same stuff about the 57th last year too, lol. Just what I think will happen though, certainly not set in stone.

I hope you are right Vundy, just don't see it happening. The 57th did win it last year didn't they?
#11
They did, but ER made it much farther than everyone picked them too and beat the team everyone thought was the best in the Region. I don't consider anyone out of it with the type of year we've had, haha.

What has happened to Prestonsburg. Went down to the wire with Sheldon Clark then took to the wood shed by Johnson Central and Pikeville. Last 2 games got beat by 35+ both games with a running clock. Not a good way for the seniors to end their regular season basketball career.

Congrats Pikeville! This week has not been good for the blackcats. They have played BL, Paintsville, Sheldon Clark, Johnson Central and Pikeville in the last 8 days. Rough end to the regular season, especially for a young team. Keep your heads up blackcats, get ready for next week!

Prestonsburg has clearly given up on the season. Wouldn't surprise me if they blow their opening game in the district tournament. The staff, players, etc have all given up.

For example at JC the other night, they turn the ball over countless times and it's the same two players turning it over each time and the staff keeps both of them in. I don't care how bad of a bench Prestonsburg has, if you have guys turning the ball over as much as some have been, then you take them out. I like coach James, I think he's a good coach, but these boys clearly aren't listening to him, they certainly don't listen to the assistant coaches, but I've never actually seen them try an coach. Don't know who the assistants are other than coach Howell. But Prestonsburg's administration needs to step up and get some basketball people in there. They hire a baseball guy and it took a year to turn things around to where they're a serious regional contender.

Athletics would be a lot better if coaches stuck to one sport. It's not like Prestonsburg doesn't have the facilities or resources to compete for a region championship in each sport. Too many good athletes for this area have come and gone and nothing has been accomplished outside of football.

That's my input. I hope that things get turned around before the district tournament, but I doubt it. Too many boys are looking forward to baseball and they just don't care about basketball anymore.

Blowing Kasongo? Lol is that a joke? I'll I've done is take up for the kid when we have adults hating on him because he's not "local". Fast is, we will dominate your team. He has the grades, which he is currently working on, and the SAT/ACT. He's already been offered, your point doesn't make much sense. Panther Thunder and I know more about his situation than ANYONE in here especially those that constantly put down and hate in the kid. Just deal with it brother. Don't have much of a choice.

And also, just a tip, but you might want to become more knowledgeable about the subject before making you self looks stupid. He's planning on going prep to improve his game and his grades, like many elite athletes do.
