Final.

This game went into overtime. It was more exciting than the drive home across Whitesburg Mountain!!

Rowe and the big kid from Pikeville can play with anyone in the mountains. I look for Pikeville to make a strong run at Johnson Central for the 15th region title.

I was hoping to get to pikeville to watch some of this tourney but couldnt. Seems my bears had a tough time with 14th/15th foes. Makes 13th not look very good. Guess we will be able to tell 4 sure very soon at the mountain classic.

We have started playing one great half and for the other half, we consistently insert our heads rectally!!
Until we figure out how to put two great halves together, I am going to worry about this team!!

This question is not intended to stir crap up.
Is Kasongo still playing for Pikeville? I'm asking because of rumors prior that he was off the team. I'm curious because i know they have a game with ER coming up.

Once again forgive me for being a realist, but playing in the 5th place game in the (below average) Pikeville Invitational is a little embarrassing for the top ranked team in the 13th region that has four 3 year senior starters and a very talented 6'6" Sophomore center.... Not to mention a great sophomore class that won the Ky AAU JV State Championship last summer?

Yes, Kasongo played in this game. He wasn't effective until the second half, IMO.
Why would this stir crap???

Harlan Co. is 13-1, I am going to be a realist. That is a pretty good start for any team in my book.

That one loss is totally my fault!! It's the only game this year that I missed!!

HC has not played one top 25 team in Ky and will not play against one all year unless they meet Knott County in the WYMT Classic.. This is unfortunate if you believe it is necessary to play against top competition for a team to develop to its full potential. Its just disappointing to me that this team is not going to get tested by some of the better teams in Ky, I think it would only make them mentally tougher and a better team.

I went and looked up the schedule since this came up. Harlan Co. plays Montgomery Co. which is a top 25 rated team, Fleming Co. which was preseason top 25 and Perry Central which was rated 13th going into last week. They also play Hazard the first game ofthe WYMT, which only loss I believe was in OT to Knott Co. That is some pretty good teams left on Harlan Co.'s schedule. That is not to include 13th region games like Clay Co. at Clay Co.

No question Harlan County is a top 25 team in the state. They have excellent guard play and two really good bigs. Then add #24 into the equation and he is a gamer, without question. They also have one or two very solid players off the bench. They will win the 13th, mark it down. Pikeville played as good as they can play and yes Rowe and Kasongo each had very good games. The Fresman are continuing to improve and if they can continue to mesh with the upper classman they have a shot at the Expo over the next two weeks.

Granny Bear what happened not like you to miss a Bears game. Don't worry too much Bears are off to a very good start. Sometimes a loss is a good thing. Bring the kids back down to earth after their tremendous showing in Carolina. Athletics build character. Brother Cecil.

Well Brother Cecil; I couldn't take any more time off work because of the Hilton Head thingy!! Those games started at 3:00 p.m. I was able to sneak off the last two games though!

Regarding the other teams mentioned Hazard, Perry Central, Clay and even Knott County that just doesnt qualify as competing against high caliber in state competion. In the past when 13th region teams Clay and South Laurel had strong teams they competed against the Lexington schools and Louisville schools in the Louisville Invitational and the King of the Bluegrass tourneyinlexington, not to mention always a big tournament in Myrtle Beach. Shelby Valley and Elliot county also scheduled top notch teams when they were strong and playing this great competition helped all of the teams become great Mountain teams. I am not down on HC I just wish they had a higher quality schedule, which come March would make them a much stronger team. Go Black Bears!!!
