Coach Harp steps down at Danville
#1
After 22 seasons over 200 wins and 7 state championships Coach Harp resigns and takes job in Tennessee.
#2
Good Man. Had a Great Run at Danville, Good Luck to Him.
#3
I did not see this coming. However, he did a fantastic job during his time at Danville.
#4
Wow this was something not expected. He is a great coach done a great job a Danville for many years wish him luck on his future.
#5
I guess he grew tired of Somerset whooping that butt for the last 4 years:welcome:
#6
Or maybe the boosters and others pushed him out because 9-4 seasons aren't accepted at Danville and he hasn't brought a state championship home in 9 years. Buffalo when's the last time anyone has brought one back to Somerset?
#7
Harp and the admirals have been a respected opponent for a very long time. Some of the teams he had in the early 2000's with kelvin turned and Pennix were very tough. Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

I think he'll trade in those 7 titles for that four year run any time and twice on Sunday.

People forget what he accomplished in following a Danville legend in Tom Duffy:

He won State Titles in four of his first 7 seasons with some of the best 2A teams to ever win a state title.

He won 42 games in a row from '91 to '93 and 57 out of 58 from '91 through '94.

He was three times State runner-up as well. That's 10 trips to the finals and 7 titles.

Wish him well.

Good luck to him where ever he goes. He has left his mark on hs football in KY like few others ever have.

He is the only coach that ever owned my Cards

where is Harp originally from?

maybe Harp thought he's done everything he could at Danville and thinks he had guys on his staff ready to take over. Good luck to Coach Harp, Kentucky will miss him

A little bit more info within that, but he won State Championships in 3 different decades. THAT is what's so impressive.

He might be the only coach in the state of KY to win state championships in 3 different decades at the same school?

The only others that might fall into that category are Jack Morris @ Mayfield and Schneider @ NewCath. Unless Schneider won titles in the 70's at NewCath, then that excludes him bc they didn't win any in the 90's, right?

Pretty amazing feat(s) right there.

Mueller won titles at Highlands in the 1990-1999 decade, the 2000-2009 decade, and in the current 2010-2019 decade. Anyone think of any any others?

Let me extend my congrats to Coach Harp. Glad he and the Mrs. will be moving closer to their grandchildren.

I got to deal a little bit with Sam when I was on the BOC. He was always honest and extremely straight forward. I didn't always agree with him; but I always respected him. Sam did a lot, a whole lot, to improve Ky high school football, and for that everyone that appreciates Ky high school football owes a debt of gratitude to him.

Thank you Sam and best wishes in your new position. I think you have created a lot of fans in Ky for a high school in Tn.

Congratulations to Coach Harp on a great career in KY. According to the KHSAA website plus this season, Coach Harp has a record of 325 wins and 106 losses in 32 years as a head coach. That places him 5th highest in wins in KHSAA history. He only trails Haywood, Hinton, Schneider and Glaser. Pretty good company for any coach.

Where was he the head coach before Danville?

Hilton not Hinton.

Thanks.

My bad, just quick typing and bad proofreading.

Calloway and Anderson county. The funny thing about all his success is the Danville faithful tried to run him out of town his first year when he went 7-5 I think. Two years later he went on to win what 41 games in a row and 3 out of 4 state championships.
