Raven Merriweather scored in the lane with 3.1 seconds remaining to lift Sacred Heart past host Ballard 55-53 Saturday night in girls' high school basketball.

Sacred Heart (7-0), ranked 11th in The Courier-Journal's preseason coaches' poll, saw an 16-point first-half lead over No. 13 Ballard (6-1) dwindle to one three times in the second half. The Lady Bruins kept chipping away, finally tying the score at 53 on a basket by Tierra Banks with 19 seconds remaining.

The Valkyries took possession, leading to Merriweather's 8-foot, game-winning jumper. Ballard never led.

She finished with 16 points. Teammate DaiJia Ruffin had 21 points.
