Class 4A State Championship Preview
#1
CLASS 4A
Collins vs. Highlands
Kickoff: 8 p.m. (EST) Friday
Cantrall ratings: Collins 75.8, Highlands 94.4
History lesson: Highlands is a 21-time state champ (tying Trinity for the state record).

Collins, in its third year of existence, is in the finals for the first time.

Focusing on one: Highlands is trying to become the first school in state history to win six titles in a row, but Coach Dale Mueller said his Bluebirds "aren't thinking about that at all. It's about this year's team winning a state championship this year. That's our only goal."

Collins leaders: QB Lawson Page has passed for 2,825 yards and 36 TDs, and run for 730 yards and five TDs.

Nathan Sames and Deandre Farris each have more than 900 yards receiving and a combined 29 TDs.

Farris also leads the ground attack with 937 yards and 17 TDs. On defense, junior middle linebacker Masai Whyte has 173 tackles despite missing two games.

Sames has 99 tackles and four interceptions.

Highlands leaders: Senior QB Donovan McCoy has thrown for 2,616 yards and 30 TDs, and run for 1,039 yards and 20 TDs.

Luke Turner leads the receiving corps with 38 catches, 795 yards and seven TDs.

Zach Harris, Colin Seidl and Jaylen Hayens have combined to rush for more than 2,000 yards and 37 TDs.

Key to victory: Jerry Lucas knows Collins faces a huge challenge.

"Highlands, what a machine," he said. "You're not going to beat them 14-12, so you have to score some points and somehow limit their possessions."
