Louisville, Indiana basketball rematch slated for 2013-14 season
#1
Those yearning for the University of Louisville and Indiana University to renew their men’s basketball rivalry might get their wish. Just not in the upcoming regular season.

U of L coach Rick Pitino told The Courier-Journal on Tuesday that the schools will not play in 2012-13 but are talking about the 2013-14 season.

In recent years Pitino expressed a desire to renew the series once IU coach Tom Crean had rebuilt that program. Both teams are likely to be in the preseason top five in the major polls. Crean said via text message that IU is looking into playing U of L but nothing has been finalized.

IU was in the market for another marquee opponent when talks with Kentucky about renewing their contract broke down. That series had been played annually since the 1969-70 season, but the Wildcats wanted to play the games at neutral sites rather than on the campuses.

The Cardinals and Hoosiers split a home-and-home series during Pitino’s first two seasons but haven’t played since 2003. IU holds a 10-6 all-time advantage.http://www.courier-journal.com/article/2...ext|Home|s
