Boyd County senior lineman Tanner Roberts has committed to play football at Union College.
Roberts made The Independentâs Large School All-Area Team in the fall of 2011 after having a solid senior season for the 5-6 Lions. Roberts played well on both the offensive and defensive lines as he amassed 43 tackles on the defensive side.
Roberts was one of the prime protectors on an offensive line that allowed Boyd County to pass for 1,800 yards and rush for 2,478 yards. He also helped lead the Lions on a three-game winning streak to end the regular season before the Lions fell to Fort Thomas Highlands in the first round of the playoffs.
According to a Union College press release, Roberts is expected to play defensive lineman for the Bulldogs.
Union coach Tommy Reid is looking forward to working with his incoming freshmen.
âI am pleased with this class of recruits,â Reid said. âTheyâre outstanding individual players, and Iâm anxious to see what they collectively bring to next seasonâs team.â
Union went 2-9 overall last season. The Bulldogs compete in the West Division of the Mid-South Conference along with Georgetown and Cumberlands in the NAIA.
In early February, Reid said Union had 20 commitments, not including Roberts.
