DJ Townsend for Rowan county was the best player on the court. Headstrong and took over the game in the 4th quarter. Finshed with 27 points. Took the ball directly at Willis several times throughout the game. Just throwing this out there, but I thought it was ironic that as soon as Townsend pulled Rowan close again, when Willis was struggling, Calipari left the gym. Again just a thought. Wasn't really impressed with Willis. He's too big not to have a HUGE impact on the game, and frankly he didn't.

Poythress would not have been held to 14 points. I'm not knocking Willis at all, but as I said the "Willis Commitment" thread, I truly believe he would have been better served going someplace where he could have worked his way into a spot versus competing with a new 5* recruit at his position every year. I like the kid and want to see him succeed, I just think he turns into the next Jon hood at UK.

I agree with you Stardust. He's a good player. But not UK material.

Totally agree with you, Townsend can play with anyone. IMO he is first team all state.....

MOUNT STERLING — Most of the 3,600 fans in Montgomery County's gym Saturday night came to see Bullitt East's 6-foot-9 junior, Derek Willis, who had committed to Kentucky on Saturday.

But Bullitt East's Trey Rakes took the spotlight at the finish by hitting a 16-foot jump shot with four seconds left to beat Rowan County 61-59 in the Joe B. Hall Prep Classic.

"I saw they were going zone and left me open," Rakes said. "I was looking to swing it, but they gave me so much room, and I knew we had to get a shot up. I was fortunate I knocked it down."

Junior guard Rusty Troutman led the Chargers with 27 points and seven rebounds.

The big crowd included UK Coach John Calipari and former coach Joe B. Hall, who sat together in the end zone.

Willis had 16 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots, but he didn't shoot well (6-for-16, including 0-for-4 on three-pointers). He admitted he was pressing a bit, which Coach Troy Barr understood.

"I can't imagine he wasn't (pressing), with everything that went on (Saturday). You come down to Big Blue country, and you're going to try to prove yourself," Barr said. "But I thought he did well."

Rowan County trailed by 13 in the second half before storming back behind D.J. Townsend, who had 27 points and seven rebounds.

"He's a great player, one of the best point guards in the state," Barr said. "He's so hard to guard. He can shoot the three good and can pull up off the dribble."

Jason Egan had 13 points for the Vikings. Adam Wing, a 6-4 senior who signed with Evansville, had four points and 10 rebounds and defended Willis most of the night.

Wing is a terrific defender and rebounder. Willis isn't the only one he has given fits.

Townsend I think is the most underrated player in the state. I dont doubt one bit that he was the best player on the court. He usually is.

No offence, but where has Wing been this season?

Great game for Townsend...What happened with Wing only scoring 4 points? Off night?

Townsend was definitly one of the top 5 players in the Joe B. Hall Classic tonight and the best on the floor in his game. Evan Daniels of Scout.com Tweeted "DJ Townsend of Rowan County, is a division one player, terrific mid range game, solid frame. Putting on a show here at the Prep Classic."

Wing is averging around 15 points a game and along with that 11 rebounds.
What do you mean where has he been?
#17
Wing does so much more than score. So does Willis. Honestly I think some people put to much emphasis on ppg.

Why isn't Coach Tyndall and Morehead State all over this kid?

Yes i'm referring to Townsend

As I understand it MSU wants him to walk-on... If you haven't noticed Tyndall does not offer local kids the paper work. He did sign Foster from Trinity, in which Townsend outplayed during their head to head meeting in Pikeville.
