Training
#1
Many squads require their girls to take a weightlifting class or an aerobics class in order to get into better shape...however some squads do no see the need where there is alot of excercising going on through tumbling, stunting, etc....what are your views on this

Excellant question "fan"! Cheerleaders must be able to handle a myriad of things. If you climb, you must be strong enough to do your part. If you base, you must be strong enough to do your part. Stunting is all about tecnique, repetition, timing, and strength. Having a nice program where both weight lifting and aerobics are combined is a nice way to direct a team's efforts as soon as try-outs are complete. A Summer program is excellant for getting girls into shape for football. (especially that first game!) Then when the season moves into basketball and competition, your squad doesn't "hit the wall" after the first quarter of a game or at the 1:30 part of a 2-1/2 minutes routine! Here again, is another example of how cheer leaders are true year round athletes!
