Chandler Clark is rounding into basketball form. Notre Dame's multi-sport standout has been with the Pandas for three weeks after leading the soccer team to a state championship, and her myriad floor skills were on display during a 45-41 come-from-behind victory over visiting Walton-Verona.

Clark, a senior point guard, led Notre Dame with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists while playing all 32 minutes. She didn't miss a field-goal attempt while shooting 3-for-3 overall and hitting her lone 3-point shot.

"Chandler's a hustler," Notre Dame coach Nicole Levandusky said. "On loose balls, you'll see her diving on the floor. She's got the will to win."

Clark's trey completing an 8-0 Pandas scoring run put them ahead 39-35 with 4:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. Notre Dame (4-1), ranked third in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll, held on against sixth-ranked Walton-Verona (5-3) despite missing front ends of four one-and-one free-throw opportunities in the final 90 seconds.

Walton led at halftime and was up by four early in the third.

"They were doing us favors by missing free throws, but we couldn't capitalize," said Walton-Verona coach Mark Clinkenbeard, who returned to the bench Thursday but let assistant Dan Sullivan direct the team. Clinkenbeard was away from the bench for a game after being released from a hospital after suffering chest pain.

The only aspect of Clark's game that she hasn't quite nailed down since rejoining the team has been her free-throw shooting. She shot 5-for-10 from the line against the defending Eighth Region champion Bearcats, missing two of those late one-and-one opportunities.

"My shooting is still rough," Clark said. "But it'll all come together pretty soon. The whole team is starting to play together much better now that we've been with each other a few weeks."

Clark and Olivia Voskuhl, from soccer, and Elly Ogle from the volleyball team are nearly fully integrated with the basketball squad, and 6-foot junior center Hannah Thelen is nearing full strength after missing two games with a quadriceps injury.

Voskuhl was held to four points, but had three assists and a blocked shot while being a defensive stopper. Thelen scored six on perfect 3-for-3 shooting. Ogle had six points and six rebounds and was especially effective on defense in the second half when she held Bearcats leading scorer Courtney Sandlin without a point.

Sandlin scored 11 before halftime but shot 0-for-3 from the floor after the break. "They played defense hard but I couldn't make a shot, either," Sandlin said. "It was just one of those nights."

Lizzy Brannen added nine points for the Pandas, who won their fourth straight. Notre Dame shot 61.5 percent in the second half while limiting the Bearcats to 26.1-percent shooting after the break.

"That's the best of both worlds," Brannen said.
