Jalen Maxey stole the ball with 30 seconds left and made the two ensuing free throws to send visiting Central past St. Xavier 73-72 Tuesday night in the season opener for both boys’ basketball teams.

The Yellowjackets’ (1-0) Stuart Jackson led all scorers with 21 points. Brooks Keisler scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Tigers (0-1), while Chris Mitchell scored 16.
