56th District
#1
I wanted to start a thread about the District that is near and dear to my heart as I am sure Strikeout King will agree, the 56th District gets overshadowed by the other districts in the 14th Region. Below are the excerpts from the Cat's Pause Preseason Preview. I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on this district.

Estill County(18-14): After falling two points short last year, the Engineers are shooting for a district title with three returning starters - 6'4'' junior forward Brandon Morris(10.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg), 6'0'' junior forward Josiah Muncie(6.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg) and 5'11'' sophomore guard Trevor Jenkins(6.0 ppg). Trevor Jones, a 5'8'' freshman, could take over at point guard. Clay Case and Dakota Evans, both 6'1'' senior guards, will also compete for starting jobs, along with 5'11' sophomore forward Trevor Jenkins and 5'10'' sophomore guard Randy King.

Lee County(13-16): Losing Dontarius Pittman to graduation is a blow for the Bobcats, but everyone else returns, including 6'2'' junior forward Tyler Evans(9.0 ppg), 5'8'' junior guard Brant Cornelius(3.0 ppg), 5'7'' junior James Gilbert(3.0 ppg) and 6'0'' senior forward Adam Marshall(3.0 ppg). Blake Gabbard(4.0 ppg), a 5'7'' junior, is expected to round out the backcourt. Senior forward Chase Baker(5.0 ppg), senior guard Travis Mays(4.0 ppg) and junior forward Clint Cox(2.0 ppg) will also compete for starting spots.

Powell County(12-11): After topping the .500 mark last season, the Pirates hope to take the next step and win a balanced district. Trey Marcum(11.8 ppg), a 5'9'' junior, returns at guard. Returning in the post are 6'1'' senior Matt Pelfrey(10.6 ppg) and 6'3'' junior Jacob Connor(8.2 ppg). Brett Goodwin(5.2 ppg), a 6'2'' sophomore who was last year's sixth man, will move into the starting lineup at guard. Senior point guard Austin Monet and 6'4'' senior center Zach Dennis are also starting candidates.

Owsley County(4-20): Returning starters for the Owls include sophomore guard Noah Shelby, junior center Izaiah Allen and sophomore forwards Joey Grove and Bradon Mason. Sophomores Adam Holmes and Cody Hall are also in the mix.

Note: Lee Co. is ranked 9th in the Region Top 10 and Estill Co. is ranked 10th.

No one probably really cares! This district is the worst in the state. But since you asked, Powell will win the district this year with Lee county upsetting Estill again to play them in the finals. They could not put these 4 teams together and beat any of the top 5 teams in the 14th region.
1. Perry
2. Knott
3. Buckhorn
4. Letcher
5. Hazard
6. Breathitt
7. Leslie

from what I've heard Estill should have beaten KCC. There towards the end of the game there was a blocking foul that should have been called a charge on KCC. Estill still has some unanswered questions. Is Noble coming from Breathitt? Some say he is, some say he enrolled in classes this week at Estill, some say he isn't and that he's staying, some don't know what he's gonna do. Not sure what Estill's starting lineup is gonna look like, they've tried couple versions of it the past couple scrimmages. Estill did lose to Pulaski County in the scrimmage last night but from my understanding they played really well against a team that should win there region

Powell County lost several good players from last year but return some good players as well. They could possibly be in the mix. especially with the District Tournament being @ Powell County.

Lee County will be up there and should be Pre-season #1 in the District unless Estill get's Noble then they'll be pre-season #1. Even tho I'm an Estill fan, Lee has had Estill's number when it comes District Tournament Time.

Owsley County I do believe will be slightly better than last year but still at the bottom of the District

The reason why it's not as big as the other districts is because they don't go out and recruit like a lot of other schools do

Estill plays by far the hardest schedule then any of the other teams in the district

I agree, I think as far as experience goes, Lee County has the upper hand because many of these guys have either been starting or getting major minutes for two years now. I think it will come down to Lee and Estill again but, with the District Tournament being hosted in Powell Co, you can't count them out! I would look for these three to be very competitive. Especially when they meet during the regular season. Nothing against Owsley, but again I think they're going to be one of the bottom dwellers in the 14th.

you are wrong with the bold. Each Teams fans are always with there respectable team's wherever they go. Everytime I've been to a game with Estill and Powell, Estill and Lee or Estill and Owsley the gym has always been packed and no where to sit. I'm sure it's the same way when Lee/Powell. Lee/Owsley and Powell/Owsley play. You can't degrade a team by saying that the district sucks that's bascially telling those teams and kids that they suck.

We just have to play the season out and see how it goes. Now Next year Owsley will or should be good. Estill should win the District next year with what they'll have back and be a top 5 team in the region

Yeah, that is why I posted this thread is because everyone in the 56th District is passionate about their team but, we do get over shadowed by the other districts. When any of these teams get together, its always a packed house!! Sometimes, it seems as if the entire town is packed into the gym whenever Estill or Powell come to town!

Negative comments about high school kids "sucking" is out of line and to say nobody cares about this district is a joke. The people in these communites certainly do care.

i truly believe that powell will suprise everyone this yr. what ppl dont realize is that they do finally have a big man that can score. last yr the dennis kid was about 6'3" an weighed roughly 290lbs an couldnt play alot without getting tired. this yr he is a lil over 6'6" an weighs in at a lil over 230. kid can play an is in shape. got to watch their paris scrimmage an he had 17pts an 13rebs. mark my words he will b a dominant force in the 56th an the 14th

Very rude comments imo, something that shouldn't have been said.
There's many people who love these teams and their players. They matter to them.
