We all know that coaches and players watch films to see where they make their mistakes, as well as what opponents like to do!! It is a huge part of preparing yourself for upcoming games!!!
After talking to a coach today that was doind that very thing, it got me wondering if refs ever watch replays of their performances to see areas that they need to work on, whether it be getting in better positions or what ever!
Anyone think this is a good idea or not???
Or do refs just assume that they can't improve? Or don't need to!

Sounds like a good idea. But, what they see on a game film is not what they saw during the game. The location of the camera and distance from the play could play into it.

Not only is it a good idea, but I think it should be mandatory! Anything that leads to improvement.:thumb:

Plus...they might see things that they are missing in games, such as illeagle picks that they never paid much attention to before! And so on, and son, and so on!

I think its a good idea, the NFL has a grading policy for its refs, so why can't HS?

Yeah, anything other than picking out their wedgies all game would help IMO.

They watch tapes to see if they looked good, or to see if they was the main show!

I'm not sticking up for them, trust me they need to do something to improve, but you have to remember our refs do it for the little bit of extra money they get out of it and because they love sports. Your College and Pro refs make major bucks from what I hear.
But still they should be critiqued by an impartial person.

I think watching game film would give :ref2: some much needed constructive critisism. As it is now the only feedback they get is from each other, which is like the blind leading the blind, or some screaming fan. I think this would be an extremely useful tool. A good ref, who is geniually concerned about improvement and not just being seen, should already being doing this anyway. Alot of the games are on TV. :ref1:

After witnessing some horrendous officiating this season, I think some reform is definately needed.

Officials need to watch film, Yes.
Officials are rated or are supposed to be rated by the assigning secretary or his assistants. I wonder how many games the assigning secretary has seen this year...Personally, I have seen nearly 90 hs games this year in the 15th region and I have seen him at TWO games.

KHSAA is not ever going to grade the refs. Why? Because then there wouldn't be any refs left anywhere. They're horrible and none of them would be able to make the grade.
I have screamed and yelled plenty of times. I don't scream at the refs if I know they made the right call. I have settled down our fans when they thought it was the wrong call. But, this year, the refs have been the worse that I have ever seen. It even seems like the refs don't care how bad they are.
