PIKEVILLE, Ky. – While the story of the day was offense, offense, offense, a defensive player took advantage of the opportunity to make a name for himself.

, a 5-9 sophomore cornerback from Hazard, had seven tackles in the game, all of which were solos, and tied a school-record with three interceptions in the 51-34 win on Saturday over Faulkner University.

As a result, he was named Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Later on Monday, he was honored as the National Player of the Week in the NAIA.

Pikeville has now won four players of the week titles in the Mid-South this season. Travis is the first defensive player to claim the honor.

Quarterback Trevor Hoskins was named Offensive Player of the Week for a second time this week while freshman return specialist Marquis Terrell was named Special Teams Player of the Week last week.

The Hazard, Ky., sophomore defensive back picked the reigning NAIA Offensive Player of the Week on three different occasions, all in Pikeville territory. One came when the Bears were nursing a 10-point third-quarter lead on his own five-yard line.

With his three interceptions, Travis leads the MSC and is third in the NAIA with four picks this season.

Travis has 14 tackles – all of them of the solo variety – a forced fumble and pass break-up in addition to his interception total.

Not taking away from D, but Trevor Hoskins (Middlesboro) was NAIA Offensive player of the week. Larry West (Lawrence Co.) Had a really decent game taking a INT back for a TD.
