How much does having a good athletic director and superintendant and staff play a part in having a successful football program?

Why do some schools not pay the coaches enough to keep them around, what would your school do?

Look no further than Harlan County. You can attribute part of their rise to the great support of the super, the principal and all others involved at the school. Unbelievable support. Super does the radio broadcasts and could still coach if he chose to. He knows what it takes. 100 percent backing by everyone.

IMO,Mr.Saylor could take over the head coaching position,if he had too,and HC wouldn't miss a beat. He has taken a couple of teams, himself,to the state finals in 1A. Great coach,I played against his teams at Cumberland in the early '80's and never won a game against them and we had some real good teams at Harlan then. It is arguable that in '82 that Harlan Co. had two of the top 3 teams in the state in 1A football. I don't remember the score but the Harlan/Cumberland game that year was a tight one. I think Cumberland went on to face Paris in the finals.

Everyone has to buy into the process. From the Super all the way down to the bus driver have to buy into what the coach is tyring to build.

I wish Harlan Ind. supported it's sports programs just half as much as HC does. I think you can have a good academic school and a good sports school in one package. But that's JMO.

Knox enjoys great support from our Principal and and our Super. It has meant our players get the support they need from equipment to all other related issues.

That support maybe coming to a crashing halt soon, if test scores don't improve soon in Harlan Co. and Knox. Both are near the bottom for the area and face state sanctions.

I'd say it will be fine, there isn't a handful of schools in the state that suffer from such a decline in students as HC does and not too mention that particular testing may very well be done away with soon.

Lets take perry central for example. Superintendent John Paul Amis and Principle Estill Neace LOVES basketball, there for Perry is a basketball school an mostly all the money goes to them so they can give their fancy gym upgrades every 6 months ya might as well say.... makes me sick they cant pay for a new bigger fieldhouse/bleachers and football lights but they can pay to have a new court put down and pollished. but anyway, my point is
No body cares anything about football down here. IMO replacing John Paul down here an putting in someone that loves football better then Pcc would already have a new stadium, training facility etc to be a better program.
So yeah i think everything dealing with what staff you have has a MAJOR role in your program

Unless either of them can break down game tape or call the defense - not much!
