Rowan County 2011
#1
How far will rowan county go next year?
#2
who do they lose??
#3
With them being in a new district made up of Ashland, Boyd Co., Greenup Co, Johnson Central...they could go in as the 3 or 4 seed come playoff time.

a big loss would be cross as well as other players too.
what grade is wing in?

A friend who lives in Rowan told me a few weeks ago that the Vikings only lose five seniors, but Cross is one of them. I went to their game against Lawrence and they were impressive. The Williams kid (or is it Williamson) is a good runner and should pick up more carries with Cross gone. Wing is a junior this year and should have a big year as a senior. I see them pushing Ashland for 2nd in the district next year and think that had Ashland and Johnson Central been in their district this year, that Rowan would have finished second.

Rowan will return what may be the best QB in 4A football next year. Not sure who he will have to throw it to but from what I recall - most of his line will return as well. I expect Knox will face either them or JC in the Regional Championship next year.

They are an excellent team with a coach who drives them hard. He has helped lead them from the cellar to a very respectable team.

Rowan returns 15 of 22 starters next year. They return all the WR's from last year and should have more depth at WR's than this season. They only had five seniors and yes I think Wing will be one of the top 5 players in the state next year. The schedule next year will stiffen up with the addition of Johnson Central, Ashland, Clark County, Southwestern and West Jessamine. So they better eat and bust their tails in the wt. room if they want a rematch in Barbourville.

Call me optimistic, but Rowan is going to beat up Ashland next year, And win a shocker against a highly ranked JC team to repeat as district champs.

Cross is a true loss, but no one got to see what was behind him. They return the best o line in the district. The #3 freshman class in the state as eight graders become sophomores. No one gets more out of less than coach Brown. Now he has more, so look out.

With Towels of Highlands also being in 4A this coming year, if Rowan's QB ends up being the best QB in 4A the kid must be a stud. I hope to get to see him play. What's his name?

Adam Wing 6'4 200lbs can run and throw also plays some free safety. He has been offered by Marshall already and also being recruited by over 20 schools in BCS conferences. He is a very similar player to Pat Towles only difference is Towles plays at Highlands and gets more PUB.

Sounds like he must be one heck of a good player. Thanks for the info.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but pay heed to what freshman Cole Ousley did for 4A Lone Oak last year. I think the final regular season stats showed Ousley #1 in 4A and Wing #7. Ousley with 3372 yards and 34 TD's. Wing with 1730 yards and 13 TD's. What is the basis for saying Wing is the best QB in 4A when a freshman nearly doubled his stats?

Clearly, the basis of my assessment was not having seen this young prodigy... LOL. Wow, did not know that. Thanks. And to top off my "did not know that" I had forgotten about Pat Towles coming to 4A as well. Still, Wing is no less than top 4. He is very good.

Johnson Central is known for their offensive line. Who are you to say yours will be better than theirs?

I'd say if they do the whole 5am runs and 3-a-day practices along with 4 hours of film and scrimmage every day at camp again like they did last season then they might have a chance to put up a TD or two on anyone. A win against JC or Ashland would be a remarkable feat, but we both know that is you being VERY optimistic.

Well I guess that's good, to be called "very optimistic",,,much better than mildly optimistic,,,or non optimistic....or partial optimistic,,,,
gee thanks

RC beating Ashland wouldn't shock me per say, but if they beat JC, my jaw will hit the floor beneath me.

How is recruiting going at Johnson Central? Signing day is in three weeks. Rowan has a good program dont know if they can compete with JC but both teams get a chance to battle it out. Wing vs. Jude and Brown vs. Matney. Sounds like a classic in October.:argue:

Check out the number of throws Lone Oak had vs Rowan number of pass attempts. It does not matter the kid at Lone Oak is going to be really good and Wing is already special. He was rated as 5th overall player in 2012 class this summer by scout.com ahead of Highlands Pat Towles and that kid is phenomenal so Wing must have a little bit of talent.

:thatsfunn Well there are a few seniors from this past year's team getting some looks and Jude is getting some pretty good looks too. Time will tell. Good luck to you all this offseason.
#22
they will be hurting without cross but will still have a good team with the qb still there
#23
Cross was very dangerous, but Wing is the heart of that team. That kid is very good!
