Bengals: ESPN report- Palmer asking for trade or retire
#1
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Sunday via sources quarterback Carson Palmer will ask the Bengals for a trade and is contemplating retirement if the team doesn’t.

Palmer, who will be entering his ninth season, has not been available for comment since the season ended and has declined all interview requests.

This past season Palmer set a team record for pass attempts with 586, completing 362 (61.8 percent) for 3970 yards with 26 touchdowns and 20 interceptions (passer rating of 82.4). The interceptions tied a career high and five of those were returned for touchdowns.

Trade rumors about Palmer sprouted up during the final month of the season. When asked if he saw himself playing for another team, Palmer said: “Yeah. Anything’s possible. This is a business and anything can happen in business, so yeah.”

If anyone wanted to make a trade for Palmer (Seattle, Oakland, San Francisco and Arizona are among the teams that would be in the market for a quarterback) they would have to take on the remaining four years of the contract that carries a base of $50 million with $1 roster bonuses in 2012, ’13 and ’14. It’s also possible a team could renegotiate.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis has remained in Palmer’s corner, saying last Thursday that he would work to make sure no one “stole Carson’s thunder”.

Interesting...

I could see San Francisco trading for him.

I see two things in this:

1: If they Bengals have no desire to have a new QB, they will call Carson's bluff. They will play the same game they did with Chad a few years ago. Carson may or may not be serious about the retiring bit.

2: Carson may well be using this as leverage to force some moves. I doubt very seriously that Carson wants to have both Chat and TO go. I think he wants to at least have one of the two. I also see this as his opportunity to help force Bratkowski out. This could be Carson taking charge because Marvin is too soft and does not have the guts to let the OC go. Carson could be giving Marvin an out.

If we trade Carson then we must sign a free agent, trade for one or draft one. What would be the best option in each situation?

The Bengals can afford a good QB in Free Agency.

Will Brown pay for a good QB in Free Agency?
#7
^ Considering how much Carson makes right now, a Free Agent QB can be had for MUCH cheaper!
#8
What QBs are free agents this year?

Brett Favre Smile

Michael Vick, I don't see that happening though.

Kevin Kolb, very realistic

All the rest are no body that I'd want. Maybe try Alex Smith, but not much else.

What about Kyle Orton or McNabb?

McNabb is still signed by the Redskins. He's expected to be released, but he is not a Free Agent.

I don't think Orton is a free agent either, at least not listed

Like I said in the other thread, Palmer sure is bold for a guy who didn't have the best year.
#14
There are some quality QB's out there, and many of them would probably take a little less to play with the recievers that Cincinatti has.
#15
I personally think that Palmer should retire!!
#17
I say the Bengals release him and get Kevin Kolb.
#18
^ Bengals are not going to release him. They can at least trade him and get draft picks
#19
^I didn't mean it like ''release him'' I just meant do something to get rid of him and bring in someone new.

My bad for the confusion. lol
