too be honest with you Yes
they have an opinion and I have mine.
I have never based my ideas of what I like or dislike about a film by what somefatcat who gets paid to watch movies thinks or for that matter the members of the academy who have admited that they havent seen 60% of the movies that they vote for.
Citizen kane didn't win best picture but most critics feel its the best film ever made.
Forrest Gump beat out shawshank redemption and pulp fiction for best movie?
Ordinary People (1980) beat out Raging Bull
Shakespeare in Love (1998) beat out Saving Private Ryan
Chairoits of Fire (1981) beat out Raider of the Lost Ark
and Anne hall (1977) beat out star Wars

the academy is not trying to please the public that is what is so great about the academy awards ... who knows the reasoning for them as to why one movie is better than another( but i would think they are looking at the total package from story, to acting, to production, to cinematography, and etc. ) but if you talk to some people --- mean girls should have won the academy award for best picture last year.... public perception and artistic perception are usually doing 180 from each other ....
and as for your opinion that it was an aweful movie that does not bother me to each his own .... but for once the majority of the people that have seen it think it is a great movie and along with the academy ... and the academy is all that matters when you are getting the gold statue
Chairoits of Fire (1981) beat out Raider of the Lost Ark
and Anne hall (1977) beat out star Wars
raiders and star wars were both great movies but neither one should be considered best pictures ...

so the academy got it right with Chariots and Anne Hall???? please! i would go along with the academy if they watched most of the films but the fact is they dont...

It is common knowledge that they vote for film they have never seen.
And trust me bub If you knew me the one thing for sure is that I dont care if the movie has made money or not.
My friends will tell you i am not the bandwagon type
but if you want to discuss cinema I do love it

do you think that sportswriters look at and watch every player that they vote for to the all- state honors ... come on ... that arguement is weak - "BUB"...just because you don't jump on a bandwagon doesn't mean that a movie wasn't good.....
the last thing i wanted to do was watch a movie about female boxing ... as exciting to me as the wnba.... but i compromised and watched ... the story made it "suprising" to me ...
getting back to the point of the thread .... I guess then that you were "suprised" it was aweful?

Actually I was surprised that it would be the cookie cutter heartstring move to get you in touch with your feminine side. I expected it to be better than it was, i was surprised that Eastwood would drop to that level.
