Hold backs- Good or bad and why?
#91
Whether anyone agrees or disagrees...its the parents and childs decision. Period!

i totally agree im not for holding a child back for sports, but in the end its the parents decision, and they have their child's best interest in mind. so really lets let it go and leave it 2 the parents.

Parents decision.

Agreed, this is a parent's decision. Is there any reason a parent would not hold their kid back to the legal limit?

Does anyone see a difference in a child who started school a year later and is a 15 year old 8th grader with a September birthday and a child who was held back and a 15 year old 8th grader with a September birthday? No difference to me. As KHSAA states, a student who is 18, on or before, August 1st of his/ her senior year is considered eligible the entire senior year for athletics. No matter how the student gets there, if they are legal to play, nothing wrong with it at all. Why is it a parent who holds a child back for "athletic purposes" is sooo wrong? Do we not want the very best opportunities for our children? Whether it's athletics, science, math, arts, etc... why is it so wrong to give the student an extra year to mature both physically and emotionally so they have the very best opportunities we can possibly give them?
