Bellevue senior tailback D.J. Slater has spent much of this football season trying to live up to the performance level Ricky Buckler left behind when he graduated last season and Friday night he came awfully close to reaching that level.

Slater carried the ball 32 times for a career-high 248 yards and scored three touchdowns in leading Bellevue to a dominating 46-0 win over Ohio River city rival Dayton on Homecoming at Gilligan Stadium in Bellevue.

The win was the third straight in the “Battle for the Paddle” game, marking just the fourth time in the lengthy history of the yearly rivalry that Bellevue (3-4 overall, 2-1 in Class A) had defeated Dayton (0-7, 0-3) three straight times.
