There isn't an entry fee for this tournament. It is played at the KBA in Lexington and since there is no official state tournament this is the one most people consider as the big one. They accept up to 64 teams and usually fill up for 7th and 8th grade. On Friday night most teams play and if you win you get a loser for first game on Saturday. Once Saturday starts it is one and done, so you are guaranteed 2 games. If you have never been there, there are 5 courts and they stay full Friday and most of the day Saturday and the atmosphere is terrific. By Saturday evening it starts to thin out and parking gets better. Only 8 teams make it to Sunday. Only school teams allowed and you cannot combine feeders schools.

So 2 middle schools can not combine to play as one school, since they feed one high school correct? Thats is good to know! Anyone know who the Great 8 were last year? This is new to me!

a little more information......i have coached teams in this tournament and it is a great tournament. I don't know how much it has changed since i have not been in the last couple of years. Great competition across the board, great atmosphere to play in, and you get to see some really great players. Play one game on friday night...win or lose doesn't determine whether you play winner or loser on saturday on first round. You're playiong to see where you are placed. Starting on saturday morning everything is single elimination. The only bad thing is that some teams can get to sunday with only having to play 2 games and some will have to play 3 games depending on how you play out. Unless they fixed it somehow, there is even chances that you will play teams you have already played in the regular season depending on how you do on friday night and how the tournament is drawn up. Overall though, it is a great experience for young kids and you really get to see how well you stack up against the rest of the state.

Is it invitational or you gotta sign up? Why doesn't Kentucky have a state basketball tourney for Middle School (like football)? Seems like it would be some good basketball.

Does Bell Co. play in the tourney? I thought Bell doesnt have a separate middle school? I'm not saying I'm right, just wondering.

Is the minimum game requirement to keep kids who play AAU rather than mide school out of the tournament? What about school systems who have 6th grade in the elementary school? Can kids play up if they were not on the specific age middle school team (ie 5th to 6th, 6th to 7th, etc)
#15
I think the rule is to keep out the kids who played high school only and then play in the middle school state tourny. Don't know that for sure but I heard those complaints a couple years ago.

Is there an entry fee for the tournament; or is it open event?

Bell Co is broke into 5 K-8 Schools which in turn feed Bell Co high, but i know one team from Bell Co. Page is playing alot of teams other than the local teams. Their 8th grade team will be one of the best teams around here this year. They have Cox, Caldwell, Miller and Green off of the football team, that frontcourt will be as big as some high schools around here
