Great win by the Cougars! Saw some things that they really need to work on. First game of the season you take a W any time. Coaches will work with them. Be glad to get Dakota Cornet back when he heals. Defense was excellent! Other that one blown coverage TD, the defense did there job. Penalties, and turnovers where crazy for the cougars. The cougars will get better fast. COUGARAMA!

Doesn't sound like excellent defense to me?? I would say we are right back in the same scenario we were the last couple of seasons. We are putting up alot of points but can't stop the other teams from doing so. I have some very big doubts about our defensive coaching staff??

Most of the offensive yardage that South Laurel had was off of two plays. One of their touchdowns was an interception return. How many times was we inside the 35 yard line and didn't score. I will wait to pass judgement on the defense as our offense was SL biggest ally last night. Our rushing game sounded good and may need to be utilized more.

If I am not mistaken I at least hear 4 times in the second half we were in the redzone and couldn't score. The defense isn't our problem right now considering we are without one of our top lineman in Dakota Cornet. Sydney Fields has to do a better job at center considering he is going to be at that position until October when the Blair kid comes back.

I hope i am premature in my judgement! I will not be satisfied until we are throwing some shutouts. If we can shut down some lucrative offensive teams our offense will take care of the rest. So the one pick that we threw lastnitght was a pick six?? That gives me a litlle relief.

South actually had more penalties than LCC bro. Not to mention South turned the ball over to them atleast 4 times. A great game by too pretty good teams. LCC wanted it more in the fourth and made the plays down the stretch is why they won.

thought they would get killed
but a break here and there and a couple of offensive mishaps
and they win so it wasnt penalties that stopped them both teams played a good game

Letcher was very sloppy on offense.They could have lined up in the I formation and scored at least 2 more times,not to mention they ran the clock out at the end of the game inside the 5 yard line of South.This game could have easily been a 4 touchdown win by Letcher.Letcher being Letcher they once again plaYed to the ability of their compitition.In my opinion right now LCC looked better in the I formation.This gave them ability to run the ball better and set up play action with Johnson.LCC has alot of flexibility on offense this year and will be capable of running multiple sets with this talented offensive unit.Letcher worked alot on passing game and the spread offense.The problem to me is the LCC o-line,the QB looked good Logan Johnson,a solid A grade.He did give up one pic 6 but he was hit as he threw the ball,so the ball was short.and the RB position looked to be great Rose,Bentley,and Hall,an A+ grade.The WR. were good,B grade,had a few drops but overall a better unit than last year.I was impressed with the play of Keaston Hall.He made some big plays with a key block on LCC first TD run and a big catch when the game was tight in the 4th quarter.Boggs was also solid,and Stewart will be solid TE.The O-LINE had some mistakes and has to play better as a unit.It looked as if South was playing the numbers game and bring at least one more than the line could block with alot of blitz.This unit will get better as everyone gets healthy.They did a nice job run blocking but have to improve pass protection.I give them a B-.On defense the secondary had 1 blown coverage but overall had 4 picks.I give them an A-.I think this secondary is the strong point of this D.I wouldnt be suprised if this secondary at seasons end leads the state in picks,Bentley,and Baker the corners,and Rose and Johnson the SS and FS.K. Hall also did good as a sub back there,very good.The problem was arm tackling and lack of pressure by front 4.I know Cornett did not play at D-end but other than Stewart no pressure was consistantly put on QB.Whwn LCC did get pressure the QB seemed to get into the open field to easy,I dont know if he is just that good of an ath.or if the LCC d-line was just slow or tired.D-LINE play I give a B because they did good against the run.LB play I give a B-.Hall played well and even had a pick but other LB's have to shed blocks better.I know they are both Soph. so they will continue to improve,Sergent and Tyree.Overall this is a very good football team that has to develop a killer instinct,and stop playing to the level of their compitition.This team could be special once everyone gets healthy and decides to buckle it up on every play.Good luck Cougars!

Good win for LCC to start off the season SL normally has a pretty good team and they are no knock over, so this win will do nothing but help LCC

why does someone like you always blame the coaching staff??? the defense had only 5 starters from last years team on the field, they are very young on defense. i have watched the coaching staff at practice have you??? they are very intense and beader the d-coordinator had the defense prepared. they had a true freshman willie smith playing d-line some. so what do you expect? ypu say shut out, did you look at any of the scores from teams that played friday and saturday??? how many shut outs did you see?? not many maybe 2 or 3 in the whole state. this team will get stronger as the season goes on. i am very proud to be from letcher county and i love the cougars and the coaches. go big blue beat them yellow jackets friday nite i will be there in full support.
