Jackson Davis tops youngsters
#1
I haven't seen a ton of the Class of 2014 basketball players in the state of Kentucky to this point but it's not too hard to come up with the best of the best.

There are a few that stick out in this class.

Eight players in this class were invited to the Freshman All-American camp, which will begin on Friday at the Chicago Bulls Training Academy.

And in my opinion there's a 1 and 1A. I know I have to pick!

Here's the top players. And please remember, these rankings are not just based on how they rank in high school but I also talked to college coaches and experts and tried to project a little further down the road:

1. Jackson Davis, Lafayette - I'll put Davis in the top spot for now - a close call - because of his unbelievable performance as an eighth-grader on the varsity level in a tough Fayette County area. The kid has unlimited potential.
2. Dakari Johnson, Lexington - Johnson averaged 14 points as an eighth-grader for Sayre and several scouting services have him listed as attending Scott County now. He's a 6-foot-8, 215-pound talent. He's fun to watch and like Davis a likely top-25 national player.
3. Quentin Snider, Eastern - It doesn't drop off much to No. 3. Hoop Scoop has Snyder ranked in the top 30 nationally and he's been really good this spring. Long arms, jet-quick moves and a sensational ability to pass the ball. Will see quality minutes for Eagles.
4. DeAngelo Russell, Central - I wasn't 100 percent sold until the Derek Smith Shootout but this kid has the ability to be one of the better all-around guards to come out of Louisville in some time - along with Snyder. He also can do it all.
5. Brandon Hatton, Dixie Heights - Has already played two years of varsity ball and has the body style to keep getting better. Was a lot better than advertised when I saw him.
6. Kelan Martin, Ballard
7. Kahlil Rasheed, North Hardin
8. Craig Owens, Trinity
9. Cody Belter, Shelby Valley - Yes, he's 6-foot-10.
10. Christen Cunningham, Scott County
