Orton Says He Wasn't Himself At Kentucky
#1
Daniel Orton's plan was not to be a one-and-done player. In fact, he never even entertained the idea until about midway through the season.

As the season went on, he felt more and more ready to take the next step, but he had to listen to a lot of detractors. People kept telling him it was a stupid idea. Can you guess who a lot of those people were?

"Kentucky fans, really. To tell you the truth, Kentucky fans," said Orton in Chicago for the NBA pre-draft camp.

Orton talks to much

Well it was stupid. Eventually he may develop better game but right now he could have used more time in college. If he would have stayed and shown some offensive promise, like scoring more than 4 pts a game, his draft stock would have rose much higher. But oh well.

He comes by it honest, Larry's mouth hardly stopped before Daniel's decision.

Really you can't blame the kid he's going to make more in coming months than most of us will make in a lifetime. NBA executives see something that most fans don't obviously as he is projected to be picked up early to mid-first round. Remember the kid was coming off a year off when he came to Lexington. He doesn't have good knees he might be better off making the cash while he can. His knees may force him into early retirement.

Ortons about to make in upwards of about $20-$30m minimum for his career. I dont fault him, or anyone else for that matter. Go get that money while you can big fella! And he is exactly right about UK fans. Although Ill admit, that there arent fans anywhere in the country where the fans would be any different when it comes to turning pro early.

UK fans are no worse than UL fans champ!! Even at the little league baseball games you have a heckler. What is shocking is how Orton let a fan get to him and then admitted it publicly. If that is one of the contributors to his unexpected move up, he is showing NBA scouts where his level of maturity really is. On the other side of his argument i agree with him totally. UK and the dribble drive is not a good fit for someone with his skills. Next season would not have been much different for him at UK. I had doubt from the moment they recruited him where he would fit in? Still Cal wanted to create that dream roster and make history so we got Daniel. Now it looks like Cal is doing it again and we are going to likely see close to the same outcome 2011. Our whole team is gone and we are back to sqaure one.

Rumor going around on the KSR comment section that Orton knocked up an EKU cheerleader while at UK and that's the reason he left school early, so he could get some contracts and start making some money to support the girl.

Its also being reported he didnt finish his last semester of school like he said he would. This could hurt UK, becuase they can take a scholarship away from us because of that. Or that atleast puts us one step closer to it if one our players does the same thing in the future.

That's true. I was getting reports all winter from classmates of both Orton and Dodson that neiter were attending classes. Dodson did return to class before the end of the school year to keep himself elligilbe. Sounds like he has make-up credits that will keep him in Lexington over the summer.
